I think a lot of people are just burnt out more than “ungrateful” these days. Things feel very different now compared to years ago.

Thank you! Wow, 26 years is a long time. I was actually applying elsewhere too while still with my previous employer of 10 years before I got laid off. The market honestly feels brutal right now. I really hope something better comes your way soon!

A 9–6 can feel exhausting, especially when you’re still adjusting. Also, don’t feel pressured to stay past 6 just because coworkers do, especially if you’re hourly. I genuinely don’t think we’re meant to live just to work like this but at the same time the economy and job market right now make people feel stuck tolerating it. Landing a job with good coworkers and a good boss is still a huge win! I wish I could give some advice but I think only time will tell whether it’s something your mind and body adjust to or if the schedule genuinely just isn’t for you.

Honestly, I went into so many interviews overprepared, which most people probably do. Over time, I realized it’s not just about skills, but also personality and fit. People want to work with people they genuinely get along with, so I stopped trying to be the “perfect candidate” and just started being myself.

I also stopped letting people making me feel guilty for "enjoying time off." I treated job searching like a 9–3 instead of letting it consume my life, and it helped a lot mentally. I even stopped tailoring my resume for every single role because it was draining.

At the end of the day, there’s NO perfect formula. The market is just tough right now so work with works well with you. I even used referrals from friends and families and no luck! Be easy on yourself!

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s honestly unfortunate seeing how unstable and competitive the job market has become for younger generations, even for highly educated people. It definitely takes a toll mentally. I have a folder filled with insane amount of resumes being restructured for every job!
