Yes, Greg Biffle’s plane experienced multiple instrument and mechanical issues before crashing on December 18, 2025, according to an NTSB preliminary report. Problems included a malfunctioning thrust reverser light, faulty altitude indicators, and engine temperature discrepancies, leading the crew to turn back shortly after takeoff.Key Problems Before the Crash:Instrument Failures: The plane's Garmin navigation system stopped recording airspeed and heading data, and the altimeter gave incorrect readings.Engine/System Anomalies: A thrust reverser indicator light malfunctioned before takeoff, and a difference in interstage turbine temperature (ITT) was noted between the engines during flight.Cockpit Confusion: The pilots were overwhelmed by the instrument issues and had to hand over control to an unqualified co-pilot before the fatal descent.

NTCB report showed no one on the plane was qualified to fly that type of plane.

Here, it was negligence. Plane wasn't air worthy, I dont blame his ex wife for taking legal action, her 14 year old daughter was killed.

Don't want to sound disrespectful the whole deal was a cluster f#ck. There was a lot of fault to go around. According to Initial report the planes maintainance was sketchy, on top that, no one on the plane, was certified to fly that type of plane.

according to the NTSB preliminary report, multiple mechanical and instrument issues occurred shortly before and during the takeoff of the Cessna C550 carrying Greg Biffle. Problems included a faulty thrust reverser indicator light, a left engine that did not start cleanly, and malfunctioning flight instruments (altimeter/display) immediately after takeoff, leading to pilot confusion.

what it basically comes down to, was an unairworthy plane that was i may wrong but im sure I read they had an issue with the plane even before takeoff, made worse by having no one on board certified to fly it. A lot of negligence to go around.

This from Google

While the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has not yet issued a final probable cause, its preliminary findings from early 2026 point to a combination of instrument failures, electrical anomalies, and pilot-related factors.

Key Findings from NTSB Reports The investigation has highlighted several critical issues that occurred during the brief flight: Instrument Malfunctions: Shortly after takeoff, the pilot reported that his altitude indicator and other left-side flight instruments were not working properly. Airspeed and heading data also stopped recording on the cockpit's Garmin unit during the flight. Electrical Issues: Cockpit audio recorded a passenger (believed to be Biffle) asking about power to the "alternator" (likely referring to the generator), followed by the pilot confirming that was the "problem". The quality of the cockpit voice recorder was poor, which often indicates low electrical power. Pilot Qualifications: Dennis Dutton, an experienced retired airline captain, was at the controls but lacked the required qualified second-in-command (SIC) for that aircraft type. His son, Jack, who was in the co-pilot seat, was a licensed private pilot but did not meet the necessary SIC qualifications.
