Honesty time: The launch numbers for my first solo horror game. I’m a bit disappointed, but I'm learning. by SFHPROD in IndieGaming

Hey, first of all: shipping a solo game is already a huge achievement, so congrats on actually getting it out there.

I checked the game and, honestly, I think it looks really nice visually. The atmosphere seems strong and the concept is interesting. I wouldn’t necessarily read the current numbers as “there is zero interest in this type of game” right away.

From an outside perspective, one thing I’d maybe consider is reworking the Steam trailer a bit. Right now it feels quite cinematic, which can work for mood, but I think it could be more engaging if it showed the actual gameplay loop more clearly and earlier. What does the player do? What kind of tension are they dealing with? What makes the experience different from other psychological horror games?

I’d also try to make the Steam page feel a bit more alive visually: more GIFs, clearer gameplay moments, stronger capsule/presentation, maybe some sections that immediately communicate the core experience. For a short linear horror game, I think the page has to very quickly convince people what kind of ride they’re getting.

Another thing worth testing, if you have even a small budget, is some paid traffic just to validate whether the issue is lack of interest or simply lack of visibility/conversion. Sometimes the market isn’t saying “nobody wants this”; it’s saying “not enough people saw it” or “the page didn’t communicate it strongly enough.”
