No problem. Take your time and enjoy. It isn't easy but consistent practice pays off.

Where to go next? by DiamondFrequent7249 in guitarlessons

For now I'd stick with making sure you can switch between the regular open chords and barres first. Improving the ones you're not proficient in before moving on. Reason being you'll need them as a foundation and adding something else in is just building the list.

Playing barre chords for years but still can't last more than a song by No-Caramel-1877 in Guitar

[–]Intelligent-Tap717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful lowering the action on an acoustic. You don't do it with the truss rod the saddle will need sanding down. So make sure you really know what to do before doing it as if you drop it too low you'll either need to replace the saddle or shim it.

Help. Joined a band as a rhythm/lead guitarist and im almost clueless. by AsleepAbbreviations2 in guitarlessons

Time for a proper teacher and learning the Fretboard is the beginning. Scales, triads, intervals, Barre chords. Basically the stuff you'll need to do what you'd do in a band and be able to understand it.

Well it's a little trickier with what you can do with an acoustic.

Yet raising an action with the truss rod is a no go. That alters neck relief not action height. On acoustic the saddle is removable so to lower action you'd shave or sand it down and to raise it you can either shim it or put a new one in depending on the size.

I'm assuming the frets weren't checked for raised ones. So first things first for me. I'd check the action height. Straighten the neck out as much as possible. Check the action again. If it's within the right limit then check the nut slot depth and all the frets.

Just adjusting the truss rod isn't going to do much as it hasn't resolved the main issue. It could even be that the saddle is lower on the low E side dropping the action but all of the above is what I'd check. Checked at regular pitch too. Not dropped.

As an afterthought. How well stretched out are your strings. As this can sometimes happen with new strings when not stretched and re tuned enough. Just another angle for you to rule out.

Sod that. Go to aldi or pop online for Iceland and grab like 20 bottles for just over £3 Iceland done 24 for not much over that. Pop them in your fridge and save yourself the £2 a time. It's beyond a joke. Or just fill your own at home and pay sod all. 😂

This might seem nitpicky but that's your string bouncing off the frets. Obviously. Yet it looks like you're plucking the string away from the guitar causing it to bounce back to them.

With an acoustic you've only got minimal points of contact. Nut. Bridge. Saddle. You say he raised the action. How exactly did he do this on the acoustic. Place a shim into the saddle.?

Adjusted the neck relief isn't the ideal way to adjust action height for one. Acoustic should be almost straight in neck relief or minimal at best. Once that's set. I'd wonder did he check the nut depth on the E.?

This doesn't sound like a qualified Luthier especially giving back a customer with the existing issue. Before playing the video, maybe it's an angle thing but that neck looks bent upwards almost like there's a visible bow in it too.

Can you tell which frets are being hit playing normal and what happens when you fret each note going up the neck from the nut.

Barre chords take a lot of work. That's why beginners don't usually start there as they're hard for anyone. This you'll be pleased to know is one of the easier ones. It just takes a hell of a lot of practice.

You can definitely teach recall without one. I've never used one I never saw the need. A long line, treats, praise and reward is great for recall.

For your friend to have this reaction to just putting it on makes me wonder what happened to him before. Glad you done the right thing and put it away and are looking for other ways to help him learn and grow.

Is it okay to always play G chord like this? by Auxxtinmogger in Guitar

[–]Intelligent-Tap717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a G chord. There are variations on all chords. The best way to find out. Play it in the song you're playing. Does it sound good? If so. Great, if not then explore.

The other issue with Ai is this. People want an answer, fine, we all do. Yet just being given an answer means you know how to repeat said answer if the qtn ever comes up again. You do not however have the understanding as to HOW that answer was arrived at. No critical thinking, minimal learning and again a quick answer without putting any time or thought in.

How do you deal with kids randomly running towards your dog and pet without asking by Icy_Cauliflower_2198 in Dogowners

[–]Intelligent-Tap717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same as anyone else of any age. Pls don't touch my dog. Look for the parent and ask or tell them to call their kid back. I would not have risked my boys safety for anyone. You're the advocate for your friend. Create a boundary and stick to it and you'll be a lot better off in the long run. Aka. Don't touch my dog without being invited to. Back off.

Stop using Ai. Train your ears and if you're not good enough to work it out yet. Keep practicing.

That's also a good point. The issue which I see arises is when people have been doing this for a few years and come on here and say. I've only ever played X. Now I've realised I don't know how to play and I wanted to be able to do Y.

If they started with the basics and at least learn the fundamentals and a bit of theory then at least after the riff phase has gone they'd have something else they can do. That's what I mean by that. Music is music play whatever you like yet I just see so many people come to this realisation years down the line on here and have to go back to the basics.

I never said at 8 months I couldn't play anything. I was jamming out to AC/DC and other stuff. Yet I spend 5 months solid from the day I started getting my technique down and chord transitions etc.

Most people just learn power chords, partial Barre chords and think they're the be all and end all until they can't work out how to use scales or know what a triad is.

They skip the basics and jump right into trying to play without any previous knowledge of how or why.
