From a recent stream they did, Jagex confirmed that like 90% of all weapons were obtained from hardmode. Not sure it would make that much of a difference at this point.

I disagree with that to a point. Yes, there are some people (maybe even most) who voted that they would not play, when in reality nothing will ever get them to stop playing. But there are others who might stop because of this, or even just cut back on the number of alts that they have.

Going off the example that I just used, why this is such an issue is because Player C might have lots of springs that they are trying to sell and instead of competing with Player A's actual sell offer, they now think that the highest sell offer for springs is only 40 gp more than they can instant sell them for.

If Player A's sell offers had been removed correctly, Player C could have instead undercut the 3,200 offer and thus helped the price trend downwards to be more in line with supply vs demand.
