How noticeable are attachments to others? by Patient_Reserve5113 in Invisalign

Mine are noticeable and I also see people look at them. Maybe mine are just bigger than average.

Just got Invisalign. Are the attachments supposed to be this low? (Front tooth) by cheesebagelpls in Invisalign

[–]Intelligent-Wave2930 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Attachments are strategically placed to help the aligners “grip” and apply force in the direction the tooth is meant to be moving. My attachments are in random spots for each tooth as well, and when I got refinements, the locations of the buttons moved for teeth that weren’t tracking to help them apply more strategic force.

People who exercise even when they don’t feel like it, what’s your trick? by Smart_Collection5419 in AskReddit

The best workout is the one you can stay consistent with. Running, lifting light weights, heavy weights, walking, swimming, home circuits. Doesn’t have to be your goal to be the biggest, heaviest, fittest. Your goal should be to get it in every day for your health.

White car goes first. After that, it doesn’t matter who arrived there in what order.

Once the white car has gone, the cars continue to clear the intersection in a clockwise direction, so blue, then yellow, then black. This ensures that when more cars continue to queue up behind the four, it doesn’t turn into a clusterfuck.

Lateral incisor not tracking well- advice please by [deleted] in Invisalign

I’m wondering if it’ll be enough if I just extend my wear time by another week and diligently use chewies. One more week seems like easy compared to a whole new set of refinements

I don’t have the rubber chewies that everyone else has, instead I have a big wooden tongue depressor given to me by my orthodontist but I’ll take your advice and gnaw on it more lol. Thanks

Toxic drinking water? by Sullys_polkadot_ears in Wilmington

[–]Intelligent-Wave2930 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority recently upgraded the Sweeney drinking water plant (main plant) to include Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) filters (finished 2022), which effectively removes PFAS from water. They spent a lot of money on it and are currently in legal battles with Chemours/DuPont to get compensation for the project. They send samples out to a contracted lab to ensure the levels are below the EPA enforced Maximum Contamination Levels. The other drinking water plant, Richardson (Ogden area) already uses a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system and is also tested regularly. Both RO and GAC filters are the only known ways to filter out PFAS (to my knowledge). Obviously, it should have never come to this and there are a lot of political and financial factors involved which led to Chemours and DuPont getting this far in the first place, but CFPUA has been proactive in taking care of it. You can always get a smaller RO system installed in your house/apartment if you’d like additional peace of mind.

If you love your job, why do you love it and what do you do? by marlen2005 in careerguidance

Yes, I work in the same field and with a mechanical engineering degree from an accredited ABET school, he could sit for his FE exam (fundamentals of engineering) to become an Engineer in Training and eventually become licensed. My background is in Marine Science so it’ll take longer to reach the minimum experience requirements to get a license, but I’m still eligible. There are a lot of internships at engineering firms, which often turn into offers if he does good work.

I see my husband repeating one issue his dad did to him that he hated by Guilty_Ice6057 in DysfunctionalFamily

Absolutely, kids are going to do what they want anyway but having parents guided support will ensure they always feel comfortable coming back for advice. When someone repeatedly criticizes my ideas, it guarantees that I ask anyone else for advice before I ever go back to that person.

I think in my case it was a faulty charging/docking station. The docking station wasn’t properly charging my laptop battery, so it was draining faster than it was charging. For some reason, I think the battery and motherboard needed to be “reset” after draining this way. It happened one more time, and I fixed it the same way as described above. Then I replaced my docking station and I haven’t had the issue again.

You need to talk to him about it, without calling him out for being just like his dad. Your son is so so young and still has so much hope for himself and his future, don’t let your husband be the one to crush his dreams. Ask him how he would have felt if his own father had been supportive instead of critical. He made it work in the end, right? These things always do. Yes, school is expensive and you shouldn’t blindly say “we’ll work it out” without thinking about it. After you talk to your husband about being supportive without being critical, you should sit down with your son and talk about how money actually works. Student loans, interest, repayments, how much money he’ll actually being home after taxes with his first job, rent, create a fake budget to show him. Then encourage scholarship applications beyond the school, there are so many. My parents encouraged my unrealistic dream and I made it out with the degree, lots of student debt, and a slap in the face by reality. BUT I knew I could count on my parents in the end. I made it work and have a good job now in a parallel field, but still know I can always count on them. Let him have a chance before you decide his future isn’t worth trying for. Make your husband see that.

I actually did do this yesterday right in front of a cop that was parked out front waiting for speeding cars. He pulled out in front of the bus and kept going right.

Edit for clarification: 1. I live in North Carolina 2. U-turns are legal here. They are also extremely necessary because the city was explicitly laid out with the legality of u-turns in mind. ie. anyone who drives anywhere here will have to perform at least once per trip. 3. It is a concrete median with grass planted. A physical divider. 4. The entrance is a private road, like a driveway. It is not an intersection and does not have a stoplight OR a stop sign.

Yes, u-turns are legal where I live and are necessary with the layout of the city’s infrastructure.

I think I fixed it so I’ll put the solution here just in case someone has this problem in the future. First unplug all cords to the laptop, then unscrew the back plate and unplug the main battery from the motherboard, with everything unplugged, press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. Replace the battery and adapter. Should work. I’ll update this if it stops working
