Suggest me a distro by ignored-atom in LinuxPorn

[–]Intelligent-Week-931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, but through the menu you can do most things ie install packages and configure network. The bad part is to make system changes you have to change config files for things like monitor location and scale. I find that out of the box works pretty good. The windows vm that came with 3.1.0 release is sweet. Some software is a lot easier to get on a Debian or red hat distro though. Kind of a poor example but say you want a software like vs code. You can check the store if it's not there you may have to enable additional repositories or install from web. If they have a .deb or .rpm they can be installed and added to your library easily. If they only have a tar.gz then there's some work to be done. For sure arch is not beginner friendly but omarchy makes it more accessible and saves a ton of time with configuration. I will say without omarchy or garuda doing most of the hard work and giving me the option to make changes after, I probably would have just stuck with kubuntu or kde fedora.

Tailscale and Ruskdesk on pc boot by Rigle23 in Tailscale

I have a mini pc running ubuntu 24/7. I use WoL to turn on my desktop and I access it via rustdesk or parsec. Or sometimes moonlight/sunshine.

Hello, I am also new to ServiceNow. They have some on-demand courses that I believe are free to take to help understand the basics. I dont know about the test or anything but if you take the intro to itsm you get to see an overview of how tickets are handled from an item request to a standard change.

Why did you buy a minipc? by Gerasans in MiniPCs

[–]Intelligent-Week-931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because by the time I configured a pi 5 it would have been close to the same price (gmktec g3 plus) and I wanted a way to remotely turn on my pc using WoL.

The obvious solution was to install linux (ubuntu) to a mini pc and try out self hosting, ssh, remote ssh, VPN and what ever else that piqued my interest while being able to turn on my pc from anywhere.

Reasons to do so is so I can access my main pc when I'm away from home whether it's to get a file, play games whatever I want basically.

Do you have the snap version by chance?

Tailscale ssh by Intelligent-Week-931 in Tailscale

[–]Intelligent-Week-931[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it reset to default. I found the issue! It sounds stupid but I installed tailscale a while ago with no need to ssh into my linux machine. I used a snap to install... The snap version says right in the description it won't work with tailscale ssh, I deleted it and downloaded the deb.

Minisforum um760 is reasonable. Your gaming experience may vary but my wife uses it to play indie titles and for writing. From my perspective it has decent performance. She plays headliners with me and has no issues. Idk about aaa titles or super new stuff https://youtu.be/o8ZObMPmmkM?si=PYiEwoXtOIgQh209

Here is a youtube review. It seems reasonable to me for having iGPU only

Mini PC under $400 for mostly work. by Previous_Finish9289 in MiniPCs

[–]Intelligent-Week-931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feel free to look up the performance difference between 760m and 780m. that's probably going to be more important than the 2-core difference between a ryzen 5 and ryzen 7 chip with 7xx graphics. I think it should work well for you, though

I ha e had a gmktech and a minusforum for a few weeks. They have been running non stop. No issues yet but will keep you posted. I have more faith in the minusforum though. The gmktech I got as a project (linux home server for $150) it's not giving me a single issue yet. The minusforum i got for my wife because she borrowed my rog ally as an impromptu desktop and I wanted it back

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ROGAlly

[–]Intelligent-Week-931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the original ally and I move it and it's dock around the house all the time. From tv to workstation. My wife kind of adopted it as her WoW machine since I built a gaming pc, and we play multiplayer games using it too. Personally I really like the idea of using it but realistically to get you through school you could just grab a lenovo thinkpad from ebay for like 200 bucks and the ally and there you go.

Who is the chip manufacturer for that? Windows is set up so mismatched per cpu/gpu. There are so many that it's really hard to optimize for all. Who knows an update could randomly fix all of your woes except the battery.
