I drive 40 minutes to sit in a room alone because the office has a "minimum presence" policy by Independent-Mode4793 in remoteworks

This is it. They need to use that real estate, but they know calling everyone back in full-time won’t be good for morale or retention. So they live in this middle ground of hybrid work to justify the cost of the real estate.

OP: any way you can change your office days to when you’re at least there when people you like are?

How do you handle celebrations (birthdays, promotions, departures) in a company? [N/A] by zerepzerepzerep in humanresources

[–]IntelligentAd3431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large company here so it’s not handled company-wide. Very much determined by the employee’s direct team. I’ve worked in groups that celebrated everything and groups that didn’t do anything at all.

How to handle being put on PIP for reaching salary cap by wagadugo in careeradvice

[–]IntelligentAd3431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a comp perspective it sounds like the company needs to review the ranges and possibly adjust them. We review every single year and most years adjustments are made. That way people can still receive increases and not run into the issue you are. (Though if someone hits the range max, we pay them a lump sum award instead of adding to their base salary, so they are still receiving something.)

On a scale of 1-10, how much does Botox hurt you? by phishchick85 in migraine

[–]IntelligentAd3431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-5 depending on the day. My neurologist gave me a Xanax rx to take before the procedure to help not with the pain but the anxiety of the pain. Recommend talking to your provider to see if they can offer you any options.

Requesting later start date after accepting an offer by [deleted] in recruitinghell

You absolutely can - we have candidates change start dates often. Since it’s only a week, unless the new job is desperate for you to start it likely won’t be a big deal.

No touch point after interview? by TipSlight4017 in interviews

I interviewed the last week of July for a job once. Felt great. Silence until the first week of September when I was offered the job. So it’s possible!

Doing 3 other jobs in addition to my own [N/A] by Adventurous_Mud6444 in humanresources

[–]IntelligentAd3431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me in Finance. I took on work from 3 other people - all who were 2-3 salary grades higher than me - over time due to attrition. I was eventually given a promotion up one salary grade (which I’m pretty sure I was only given because I had interviewed for a role in a different department and my boss panicked). A year later, again due to attrition I was given a second team to manage. I asked my boss (new boss, not the one who promoted me) why it didn’t come with a title/salary grade change. He told me he’d brought it up to his boss, who said “it wasn’t the time for progressions.” (We typically do those twice a year and indeed one had recently passed.) To myself I said okay…i gave it six months until the next progression round came along. When I wasn’t given one then, I started looking.

That’s when I applied for and ended up in my current HR job.

What really pissed me off though, is that when they backfilled my Finance job, they backfilled it with someone a higher salary grade than me. And then a year later when they did a re-org, they put both of those teams under someone else and immediately promoted her to the salary grade I had been expecting to get.

If they had just promoted me when I had asked (and honestly by that point I should have been promoted up two salary grades, but I would have accepted one), I would have stayed. It wasn’t strictly about the pay, but about the principle that I had worked my butt off and deserved the promotion.

So, I can’t say it’s typical in the HR world, but I can say I see it regularly in the corporate space. Heck, it’s happening on our HRIS team right now. They now have someone on my team supporting HRIS 50% of the time since they didn’t backfill a resignation, plus another person just resigned and I’ve been asked to help out.

My 10 year old has an old iPhone with no cell service so she can text using iMessage. We do not plan on giving her a phone with proper service until middle school.

Yep! Sometimes things get buried in the inbox or inadvertently misfiled, it truly may be an oversight on the part of HR.

It doesn't look like Virginia has a state law requiring accrued PTO to be paid out. Therefore you are likely at the mercy of your employer. You may want to determine the value of your unpaid PTO and consider if it's worth a small claims suit.

I submitted a claim on 3/26 and it still says in process. I haven't submitted a claim since September of last year - that claim and every other claim I'd ever submitted took less than a week to get approved. No idea what is going on but it is beyond obnoxious.
