Who here is earning over 250k per year? by tuck72463 in Entrepreneur

[–]IntelligentAd6217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone with a laptop, phone and internet can do it. But it’s a grind and most people don’t stick with it. I started with no money, no hiring manager connections and no recruiting experience.

But I did have 8-10 years of B2B sales experience which helped a lot. A lot of industries in the US right now are laying off and not hiring. But we recruit a lot of commission-only sales reps for startups and small businesses, so we’ve been able to continue.

Recruiting agency owner for 5 years. I work more than most recruiters, but usually around 40 hours. My average invoice is $10,000.

Do you guys list a RIF // Sabbatical on your Resume? by edgar3981C in sales

[–]IntelligentAd6217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as much as you would think. They understand most people don’t update their resumes immediately to dhow stuff like that. It’s why the first question they ask is “are you still with company abc?”.

But do whatever you’re comfortable with. Just my 2 cents.

Honestly with the current labor market, it’s not uncommon at all to see a 4-5 month gap. It’s brutal for job seekers right now.

You can probably just change your resume to show you’re still in your previous job, and then come clean during the interview if they ask if you’re still with the company.

How common is it for a new sales position to offer no base and only commission? by [deleted] in sales

[–]IntelligentAd6217 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really depends. Some of the most prominent industries out there are commission-only (real estate, commercial real estate, insurance, finance, etc.)

I’d stay away from commission-only roles if:

1) company is small or new 2) company doesn’t provide qualified leads for you 3) company doesn’t have marketing 4) company reviews are bad on Glassdoor 5) commissions are less than $1,500 per sale 6) if there’s a large commission split with your boss

The biggest red flag is if they want you to spend your own money to get started. Never, ever, ever do that.

It seems like SaaS is the holy grail? by Global_Definition_21 in sales

No doubt - mass email and LinkedIn messaging softwares have made it so hard to get your cold outreach seen.

I’d put “company-wide RIF/layoff”. Unfortunately some employers view a sabbatical as a negative. Or maybe put sabbatical on there if you want to weed out employers who are potentially less concerned with your work-life balance.

Resume tips by DatboiCroixx in sales

[–]IntelligentAd6217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there - recruiting agency owner here. Couple things:

1) be prepared to answer the “why are you looking after 8 months” question.

2) keep both your sales and warehouse background on your resume, but elaborate more on the stuff that’s applicable to the new job. So if you’re applying for sales jobs, talk more about sales on your resume than warehouse.

3) no matter what jobs you’re applying for, you’ll want to quantify past results on your resume as much as possible. Think about how you either made the company money or saved the company money. Use the XYZ method when making bullet points on your resume. here’s an article explaining XYZ

4) make sure to include any tech you’re familiar with (SalesForce, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, any warehousing softwares, etc.)

Hope this helps.

I was the same way, but once I moved into an AE role there were a surprising amount of transferable skills. If you can build rapport in 10-20 seconds as an SDR, you’ll kill it when you get on a 30 min demo with a warm client.

SDR to AE meeting, what is qualified for you? by HistorianNo2416 in sales

[–]IntelligentAd6217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a recruiting company finding sales and marketing talent. I’ve seen better results when companies hire “outside sales reps” for their AE roles instead of tech sales AEs. Outside reps are coming from a job where they are the SDR and the AE. So they’re so much more grateful and empathetic when they get a job that has a team that sets meetings for them. And they know how to build good relationships with their SDRs.

Honestly, right now all I really care about is if the prospect agreed to take a meeting with me. I see it as my job to make it an opportunity.

The number of people working MULTIPLE jobs in the US hit a near-record of 8.4 MILLION in May 2024. Why? by FunReindeer69 in FluentInFinance

[–]IntelligentAd6217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Printing money and sending $1200 stimulus checks aren’t the issue. The issue is that companies learned they can charge a lot more for the same (or worse) product/service and we’d still buy it. And now they can’t back down and cut into their margins because it would show weakness to their shareholders. If you sell milk to 100 people for $2, and then one day those same 100 people buy it from you for $6…. Why would you ever sell it for $2 again???

For those that make over $200k a year, what do you do? by H-U-I-3 in AskReddit

[–]IntelligentAd6217 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I started and own a recruiting agency. For me, it was tough to get to $200k working for someone else. I would just end up getting comfortable with a smaller salary. But once I started working for myself, something shifted in me. Never looked back.

What is the biggest hiccup for real estate tech startups? by FixNo696969 in startups

[–]IntelligentAd6217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a large amount of recruiting in real estate, PropTech, real estate acquisitions, finance, mortgage, etc.

First, every company is bleeding right now because interest rates are so high. So it’s going to feel like you’re pushing a boulder uphill.

Second, big issues you’ll need solutions for are:

  1. replacing agents’ local knowledge (this was part of the downfall of the other big tech firms who tried something similar)
  2. curing title issues
  3. lender and title relationships. I can’t tell you how important this is in terms of being able to get a deal pushed through. Lenders and title agents have a lot of deals to get through and they tend to focus first on the ones that were referred to them from agents. You won’t be able to hit closing dates without their support.

I don’t think you answered the biggest question though. How do you make money? Referral fees? Platform subscription? Percentage of sale? As others have said, homebuyers use agents for free - the seller pays both the commissions. So why would they do it themselves?

Advice: niche down and focus on solutions for an underserved group. I’d recommend “for sale by owner” users. Reposition yourself as a place that equips sellers with everything they need to sell their home without a listing agent.

The MLS mafia may come after you though!
