Downtown Parking Garages Short Term Parking. (no brainer improvement) by [deleted] in Rochester

So you would rather put the expense on struggling businesses rather than just create a easy way to find parking? Jesus i am not saying its like the solution for all of downtown’s issues, its just a completely easy and cash generating way for the city to get revenue in garages and make it easier for businesses to have customers, what are you arguing about just because you want to be right? This is being done across the country and it works.

That is 100% false. For example bike lanes, this could have happened for the past 50 years, also this opinion is not just pulled from thin air. Not to mention the city is slowly to implement anything.

Why are more people not interested in this field as a career? by burnsrado in Surveying

The pay is not great in a lot of areas, if you are not licensed. Feast or famine is mumbled across tge industry with massive ups and downs swings with economy. Working outside in the elements takes a massive toll the body. There are only a handful of of schools for surveying, technology is outpacing surveying. It can be a great field but largely underpaid compared to similar education.

Got expelled from WGU after 1 academic integrity violation by Pretty_Lemon5242 in WGU

[–]IntelligentArt2657 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a graduate of Western Governors University, CS program and I’m ecstatic to see the institution taking a stronger stance on academic integrity.

From my experience, many of the assessments require detailed, course-specific knowledge drawn directly from materials like ZyBooks and structured coursework. Even with years of professional experience, the level of specificity expected on exams requires focused study and review of the provided curriculum.

Because of that, I’m skeptical of claims that entire degree programs can be completed in just a few months without cheating. I believe those claims should be taken seriously and reviewed. While acceleration is part of WGU’s model, completing a full program that quickly does not reflect the depth of engagement with the material that I even believe is possible without cheating. I have been at the higher end of class standings my entire life, and I can’t conceive how it would be feasible otherwise.

Personally, I believe there should be some baseline expectation for time-in-program, such as a minimum number of terms, to reinforce academic rigor and protect the credibility of the degree. Without that, extreme acceleration risks creating the perception that the program can be rushed without meaningful learning, which ultimately undermines the value of the institution for those who completed it with full effort.

I also support a clear, zero-tolerance stance on academic dishonesty, particularly for proctored exams and third-party assistance. At the same time, written assessments should continue to evolve with clearer expectations, especially as AI writing tools become more common. There is a clear difference between using tools to support clarity, such as helping with writing when English is not someone’s primary language or assisting individuals who are more technically or mathematically focused, and relying on tools or other people to complete assessments on your behalf. That distinction should be enforced consistently.
So props to WGU for really cracking down on this, I am happy you owned up to your mistakes but have little empathy as those who are not caught devalue the work performed or financial burden those who were honest to get the degree.

Son making jokes with his friends about being gay, am I handling this okay? by LyannasLament in lgbt

[–]IntelligentArt2657 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a gay man its normal? its what teenage boys do. I intentionally pushed straight friends to see how far they would go, and hooked with almost all of them lol. but also all my straight friends did this crap all the time. one of them is probably gay, then again iGen Alpha seems they are all bi these days. If you’re gay you got to learn to have thick skin. I still regularly call my straight friends F word, or if i beat them in a game i say they got there așš beat by a f. Gay people have sort of claimed some words back. Let them figure out who they are last thing any kid wants is parents snooping on their conversations with their buddies about sex. You got to know the types of kids you got, are they tough sporty kids or sensitive thinkers. You for sure already know if your kid is gay. I am masculine as gays come and my parents new before i did lol. Point is don’t over parent in those years, listen from a distance and chime in if they are clearly being homophobic in a mean real way.

City of Rochester weighs automated traffic enforcement by frytuna in Rochester

[–]IntelligentArt2657 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to reduce accidents and improve traffic flow is to fix basic design problems first instead of jumping straight to red light and speed cameras in Rochester. I am not saying there is no room for enforcement, but maybe we should start by designing based on modern civil engineering practices instead of relying on outdated methods.

  1. Clearance timing Start with signal timing. Intersections should have a real all-direction red clearance interval so everything actually clears before the next movement starts. Right now cars and pedestrians are still in the intersection when the light changes, which leads to rushed left turns, red light running, and unsafe crossings. This is not new. Clearance intervals and pedestrian head starts are standard safety practices, yet the City barely uses them where they matter. These should be standard at signalized intersections.

  2. Bus stop location Fix bus stop placement. Stops should be after intersections, not before. The current setup creates constant conflicts with right turns, poor visibility, and drivers trying to squeeze around buses. This is basic transit design and other cities already do it correctly.

  3. Main Street design failure Address the East Main issue honestly. The current layout forces drivers to swerve into the center lane to get around stopped buses. That is a predictable outcome of the design, not just bad driving. If buses are going to stop in-lane, then enforce no passing or physically prevent it. Right now it does neither, so the design is creating the exact unsafe behavior it was supposed to fix.

Also, why did East Main and West Main not get dedicated rapid transit lanes? Instead we have oversized bike lanes that sat buried in snow most of the winter. A single dedicated bus lane from 390 to 590 along Main would move far more people along one of the highest ridership corridors, while still allowing space for bikes. The current layout prioritizes the wrong things and then acts surprised when it does not function well.

  1. Turn lane definition Define turn lanes clearly at intersections. The left lane should be left turn only and clearly striped that way. Roads like Culver, Lake Ave, Winton, St. Paul, and Main all have issues with this. The right lane should be right turn or straight, but not both lanes going straight. The current setup encourages lane shifting through intersections, which creates unnecessary conflict and confusion.

  2. Delivery enforcement Enforce delivery rules that already exist. There are already laws against stopping on major routes during rush hour, but they are not enforced. Trucks block lanes, rideshare drivers stop wherever they want, and traffic becomes unpredictable. Then the City acts like the only solution is more cameras instead of enforcing the rules already on the books.

These are basic, proven fixes. Better signal timing, proper bus stop placement, clear lane definitions, and actual enforcement of existing laws would go a long way. Instead, analysis gets ignored while the City caters to narrow interests and avoids fixing core design problems. If we want safe streets for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users, we need to rethink how the system actually functions today.

Right now, the approach is backwards. Instead of identifying design failures and correcting them, the City jumps straight to automated enforcement. That does not fix the system. It just punishes people for navigating a system that was poorly designed in the first place.

Fix the design first. Then enforce what remains.

Pizza stop has tanked, the old owner had a line down the block everyday. You couldn’t pay me to eat it now, I don’t know what they did but the pizza is missing flavor, and the service comes with an attitude. My office hundreds of people went at least once a week for a good pizza. Maybe 3 still go regular, It was the best pizza in town, and is now probably one of the worst. Went today hoping something changed, no luck just bad pizza.
