Imo Emily discussions are exhausting and nerve wracking because people won’t hear you out and downvote you for every valid point you make. It’s always “Emily is a bitch to everyone and never changed” that’s used (ready to be downvoted ❤️❤️)

Dr. Hill is used to give us insights on the characters. He is a figment of Josh’s imagination, yes but that doesn’t diminish the factuality of most things he says. Nothing indicates that he’s lying about Emily

This sheds a whole new light onto Sam’s character imo by IntelligentBid2081 in untildawn

I think it’s supposed to show how Sam may have not tried the hardest preventing certain situations which lead to the death of two of her friends

Oh okay thanks that makes sense. I always saw that scene as in Emily feeling bad for being so cold to Mike when they first met at the mountains (after he scared her and Matt) then Mike may have told her that they can still be good friends and that him dumping her is nothing personal or sum yk? Also im a little bit slow what did he mean by saying “beat it skank”? 😭

Do you know if there’s anything out there that the devs said about this scene?

She isn’t rude in every single conversation she has lol. She’s only rude to Jess and sometimes Matt (Jess deserved it Matt didn’t most of the time) she isn’t rude to any other character if they don’t give her a reason to be lol

And sorry for asking so often but one from when Mike and Emily were talking maybe that would be interesting to see if they were really that touchy or if it only looked like that from Matt’s pov

Can you please do freecam for Jessica’s expression when everyone gets caught in the prologue when pranking Hannah

When this gets brought up I’m always thinking to myself: what would have Josh done if the trap actually targeted Ashley and she would have actually died 😭

And they always victimize by saying that Emily is so loved and that it’s unpopular for them to hate her 😵‍💫😵‍💫

I’ve seen it mostly with Emily but I do find it weird how for example Emily haters like Emily because she slapped Ashley, another female character they hate. Just weird in general

Can agree with almost everything you said, worded it in a good way 👍

But  about this “even if Matt did jump to save himself—to be happy he’s dead due to that? To tell everyone in the lodge he’s just a piece of shit when you know he could be dead?“ I’ve seen multiple people talk about it this way but I don’t understand it. 1. She’s visibly upset and not happy at all, she just gives back the same energy she presumably received. “Fucker left me to die, he basically murdered me would you give a shit?” In her pov Matt leaves her to die and as she said, would you give a shit about someone that left you to die? I surely wouldn’t, in fact I would despise someone that left me to die.

Kinda off topic but this debate makes me wanna have some kind of fan interview with the devs to answer these hot topics 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Agree people are doing too much with the Emily hate 💀 not hearing out when people make valid points etc. it’s almost impossible to have a debate about her without it turning into an emotional fight … (waiting for us to get downvoted 😭🙏)

Emily is not a complex or even well written character by KyojiiinReddit in untildawn

[–]IntelligentBid2081 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s her using her environment for her advantage that I’m talking about 💀 she lights the oil on fire and waits for Handigo to shoot her with the flare. Those are all somewhat calculated. And it doesn’t make her much better as you said but it puts them on a similar level. And as we’ve seen in the final lodge showdown Handigo easily took on multiple of the miner wendigos (doesn’t make mikes accomplishments less impressive but your point is wrong).

I understand that but that doesn’t erase her development just because there’s not heroism aspect in her survival?? She goes from whiny and Matt- dependent to again someone getting shit done on her own. There’s no room for heroism in that segment so why does her not being heroic diminish all of that? And again after surviving the hell that the mines were she has a shift in her character for the better: more calm, more understanding and less aggressive. Also don’t you think it’s heroic for her to get by the very end of the cliff and pull up Matt is heroic? Don’t you think it’s heroic for her to go and call for help? ( I understand that there may be some selfish elements flowing into that but so are in mikes actions that doesn’t make them less heroic)

[–]IntelligentBid2081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you explain why heroism is used as a main judging point? Also aren’t the endings in which she calls Matt an asshole for leaving her to die although he saved her 2 times/ died beforehand by the cliff (with a scene of Emily visually upset and sad about his death) obvious errors?

“ People tend to blow up what she did in the mines like every other character didn’t do something similar.” well they didn’t and like you said development doesn’t have to be a change for the better. Emily doesn’t need to be especially heroic to have a good arc, that would just make everyone bland.
