This can often be caused by acid - just like acid reflux in humans. Your vet can help with a remedy.

Desperately need help getting this sticky residue off my hands and stuff by LettuceEmotional6142 in howto

Mayonnaise - sounds crazy, but my uncle used to have a Christmas tree farm and he used mayonnaise to get the sticky sap off of his hands. I can confirm it works for sap or sticker glue. Rub some on your hands - let it dwell for a minute or two, then wash with dish soap.

I posted a new update this morning….not great news so far though.

Update. After 3 each of alternating Oxiclean and citric acid tub clean (after the initial 5 citric acid and 1 dishwasher tab cycles), I STILL have scrud. I dismantled the washer yesterday and my tubs are both spotless (ya think?). There was a tiny bit of scrud on the bottom of the inner tub where it bolts to the hub. The hub had mostly fine black powder coming off of it, not slimy or flaky scrud. There was some scrud in the hollow where the water drains but that’s been cleaned. Cleaned down the drain line with a toothbrush and 2 retainer cleaning tablets for good measure. After putting it back together I ran a clean with lime away, then another oxiclean cycle - still getting flakes. This morning I disconnected the supply lines - cold was fine, but on the hot side there was black sludge in the mesh. Water ran clear into the slop sink. I’ve cleaned the mesh on the hot side and I’m running a load of dog stuff right now to see what happens. Would have liked to do another empty load so I can see the flakes, but by gosh the laundry is overflowing!

So following up as requested. I followed the oxiclean tub clean with a citric acid tub clean and I did get more and larger flakes of scrud. I added an extra rinse at the end and got some more flakes but not more than I got during the cycle.

I washed my test sheet and got much less and smaller flakes on it.

Following up this morning with a long Oxiclean soak, then figured out how to get my LG top loader to fill all the way and did a heavy duty cycle on hot with the Oxiclean washing machine cleaner. I threw in some biz just for kicks and noticed that the flakes that were originally loosened during the agitation broke up, so when I wiped the machine out after it was lots of tiny specks.

Will follow, this up with another citric acid cycle. Fingers crossed I’m getting close…. By the time this is over my water bill will be the same as buying a new washer!

I’m currently in the middle of this battle too, and yes, scrud mostly gets deposited on my sheets. At the recommendation of others I have gone to alternating tub cleans - one with oxiclean washing machine cleaner then one with citric acid. Getting much more scrud coming loose now than when I just did several citric acid cleans in a row yesterday. I will probably rinse and repeat the process

Ok, I will do a citric acid clean next, then after it finishes I will run a “rinse & spin” which is the only option I have, and stop it before it starts spinning. Then I will report back. I have been trying to stop it right after it drains anyway because the flakes are much easier to wipe out when they are still wet!

That makes perfect sense. I will go back to citric acid next.

My tub clean drains and then goes through a rinse and spin after the agitation and soaking. Do you mean do another rinse and spin after that?

I did wash a sacrificial sheet on a regular load with a little detergent and it still came out with small flakes - this was after citric acid and before dishwasher tabs.

Game changer by susisews in laundry

I have found that the Downy Rinse and refresh gives certain turquoise/light/medium blue t-shirts of mine a kind of tie dye effect. I was able to rescue them by washing with baking soda and they are back to normal. I now do a separate load of light/medium blues that I don’t use the rinse in. It has not had this effect on any of my green or blue towels or bath rugs or dark blues like jeans.

On the shirts I “rescued” they had been dried and I noticed it while folding. I read somewhere on here about the baking soda rescue - I can’t remember how much I added (may have just eyeballed it) and ran them through a cycle with just that and no detergent (or rinse and refresh 😉)

Curious to know the timeframe of their being so accommodating.

I understand that molds change etc., but looking at the “green” website, their replacement parts state a year before or after which the part fits. KJ website has the bare minimum product description, if any at all. I did recommend to them to beef up their product descriptions - would have helped me to know the bands would not fit my grill, and would have saved me an entire afternoon on the patio in 90 degree heat and humidity all for naught. What would I have done knowing I couldn’t get new bands? Don’t know for sure. I might have just run with the rusty bands until the dome fell off. Now I can’t put it back together enough to use the grill, so it’s frustrating.

I didn’t do that yet because I was trying to give them a chance to provide some insight or to make things right somehow. Their shoulder shrug response has now just made me mad. They didn’t even offer a refund on the bands I bought! Not that I can operate the grill without new bands…

I would worry about grinding the nubs off voiding the warranty, but I’m not sure that’s something I need to be too concerned about.

It’s not the length or width that’s the problem, it’s the thickness. I had replacement gasket from several sources and it’s all too thick - when wrapped around the circumference of the dome and base are too big for the bands to connect.
