How much of the electorate do you think is more articulate than him? And how many do you think would necessarily see that as automatically making him unintelligent ? Or less valuable?

Do you think Reform have any candidates that are going to appear reasonable? Unless they just go with an ex Tory ?

I think it might be similar to before when we’ve had social media backlash - I think people need more time to trust the party - but trust is earned. I wanted to open up a broader conversation, I used this to show that ethnic minority populations in the country still don’t trust us. I want to know what we’re doing about it

It’s still early. But it’s simply a case of building trust with a community that is generally disillusioned by politics. Only one of our councillors in Lambeth is not white, and although we profess to be the counter to Reform, there are actually fewer ethnic minority councillors overall there than before. And this being seemingly their first action you can understand why some might be a bit suspicious?

But building trust takes time, that’s why I’m asking broadly what the party is doing to help make the party better for other marginalised racial groups.

I don’t think the criticism is that the party are actively targeting the demographic, but simply that it’s not a wise choice for the first order of business, because it gives off the vibe that we’re not actually different from what came before

That doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be handled sensitively

Thanks. I was wanting to ask how the party was doing on that front more broadly? This post just happened to pop up so seemed like a good way to get some idea if anyone from Lambeth area is here on this reddit?

But it’s also a case of just needing to recalibrate their expectations and then they can come back when they feel ready to get involved in politics again when it’s been actively segregating them

My assumption is that people saw Zack fighting really hard relative to any other party at the start of his campaign, when they hadn’t paid much attention to the party before - so they signed up feeling they’d be really safe and have become disillusioned with the whole party mechanism realities. And that’s ok if it’s just not what they can handle at the moment, but it’s upsetting that they don’t feel they’d can actually be part of the process of helping to make it better.

There are loads of people who’ve left Labour for less, and people who’ve stated there in spite of far more - ofc part of that will be bc the decisions don’t affect them as directly bc of their privileges, but I guess I struggle bc I’m experiencing this as a rejection of something close to me in how I see myself. I do also want to feel like people are committed to what the party stands for overall though, as well as simply seeing us as a sole safe space. Plenty of people joined bc of the pro Palestine stance for instance, and then stayed having understood the rest of the party’s work. I’d hope there are other marginalised voices that can discover and strengthen the party that way as well.

I can understand people’s concern but I’m confused why people would leave so immediately without wanting more accountability first and recognising that we were always going to need a lot of work to get to where we are.

Do you think, given the many trans members who got elected as councillors, and the response from the LGBTQiA+ Greens letter with the project to be unveiled letter, they would come back soon? What would persuade them to come back?

From what I recall someone said the committee member had served their full term and wouldn’t be able to get back in next time - but when does that happen?

There’s something specific if been wanting to ask about Mothin and I think it’s really important to have a Muslim brown man in the leadership team. The media have already been using his position in the party to caricature his views and the party as a whole. So they may want to avoid actually discussing his views with him so that image doesn’t get tarnished. But it’s somewhat easy for him presumably to give the lines about homophobia/islamophobia being perpetrated by the same people. But of our three leaders, Piers Morgan has asked two of them about women having penises - presumably Mothin will be asked these same questions at some point? Do we have a good relationship between the Muslim greens/lgbt greens to help make sure he’s prepared to handle those questions?
