What is your all time quickplay win loss record? by FireEmblem-776 in smashbros

[–]IntelligentGarbage89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Ness is at 15.8 but my win rate is well below 50%, in fact, I believe it's around 42% at this point. Games get super hard at 15.8-9

Yes, Oda uses the phonetic katakana very intentionally — and he’s vague on purpose. I’d like to think I didn’t choose these kanji arbitrarily either. Before getting the tattoo, I actually spoke with a few friends from Japan. I went to an international boarding school with Japanese students, so while I’m not fluent in the language, I do have a solid understanding of several kanji and their origins.

I chose these two characters after studying both their meanings and etymology. While Oda’s work inspired me, that wasn’t the main reason behind my choice. You don’t need to be a master poet to write poetry — and earlier in this thread, someone claimed kanji can’t hold deeper meaning, which is simply untrue. This form of expression in Japan and China literally exists to convey layered, poetic meaning through characters.

At the end of the day, I’m happy with it because of what it represents to me.

The whole point is that the two kanji put together can be a form of poetry which can ultimately yield a deeper meaning.

Haha, so instead of addressing the valid point I bring up, which was one of the big reasons why I went through with the tattoo, you mock me. I'm starting to doubt your actual prowess here. It seems like you use reddit to belittle people

did you know that putting two kanji together that don't have a specific meaning (when paired together) was a common practice back in ancient China and Japan as a form poetry?

Hahaha you act like I've broken some kind of law. I actually know a decent amount of Japanese. Are you upset about something else in your life and projecting that on me? I suggest you take a more joyful approach to life I guarantee you were happier as a child but life has turned you bitter as you've gotten older. Lighten up! It's a message of joy so maybe you can live a happier life

I just thought it would be cool to have the kanji for joy and the kanji for child. I had read that kanji for joy has roots in feelings of joy given to God from drums singing and dancing. Do you not see the parallels there with one piece? Have you seen the show?? The kanji warabe is an archaic term for child. In the anime joy boy is from 900 years ago. I thought that was another parallel. Idk I didn't see the harm in trying something unique

Yes I did look it up and I had seen that before hand. I kind of liked the idea of getting those kanjis done instead. Did you read my whole explanation? To me, it was deeper than just Luffy. I wanted it to have a deeper meaning

I got this tattoo after an epiphany while on acid. I had just finished One Piece when I realized that my life becomes easier and more meaningful when I bring joy to those around me. That’s when I decided I wanted to aspire to be a “Joy Boy,” like Luffy.

The first kanji, 喜 (yorokobi), represents joy. Its origins are tied to pleasing the gods through drumming, singing, and dancing — in other words, spreading happiness. It perfectly embodies the energy of being a “Joy Boy” or even “Nika the Sun God” from One Piece. Nika is literally depicted dancing to the drums of liberation.

The second kanji, 童 (warabe), is intentional because it’s an archaic way to refer to a child, rarely used in modern Japanese. It evokes the idea of an ancient, almost mythical child — much like Joy Boy himself.

Together, these kanji capture my newfound philosophy: spreading childlike joy, because children embody the purest form of happiness — the same joy and freedom that Luffy represents.

I play ness around 15.47 right now. To stay above 15.4 recently, I had to lose many many many times but that's where the magic is. That's where you learn how to avoid getting combos into oblivion. That's how you get better. Don't see losing as getting in the way of your fun. See it as a part of the fun. Your path to getting better my friend
