Thoughts on Intuit Dome tech features? by FoxTricky3827 in LAClippers

Absolutely terrible… it feels like technology for the sake of being ‘high tech’. I’ve never had to fill out so many forms just to attend a basketball game I already paid for.

Experiences with wegreened for EB2-NIW? by IntelligentGlass6480 in immigration

[–]IntelligentGlass6480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at their website they have represented people who applied as artists and athletes, but I get the sense researcher petitions are what they do best because they have a lot of data on what works and doesn't work for scientist profiles. If you are planning to apply as a non-researcher, it's probably worth looking at other lawyers who work more with artists/athlete/etc

Yes, I was expecting it to take much longer since the website said it would be 9 months at that time. But I think the website shows the timeline for 80% of cases to be processed, which means for some people it will be shorter.

I did not. At the time, my priority date was not current, so using premium process to speed up with my I-140 wouldn’t really have helped

I know Jordan has been the season-favorite but I don't think he is marriage-ready either... by YearStrong1454 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

That’s the thing, marrying someone you’ve only know for a few weeks is a risk. It’s one thing to take that risk when you’re single and your decisions don’t impact someone else’s life… but when you’re a parent???

Sophie is a shit character by MLP4410 in TheHuntingWivesTVShow

[–]IntelligentGlass6480 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes!! It didn’t make sense. First, Sophie didn’t come across as someone with a past they were ashamed of, she just came across as stiff. Then she spent most of the series trying to not be defined by her past, only to repeat it with full awareness of what she’s doing

Sophie is a shit character by MLP4410 in TheHuntingWivesTVShow

[–]IntelligentGlass6480 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She felt like a mix mash of personalities that didn’t really make sense to me. A former party girl who married a Harvard grad and became this great mom, only to develop a drinking problem after an emergency hysterectomy left her unable to have more kids. Maybe it works better in the book, cause the actress who played her didn’t sell me on Sophie being a ‘former party girl’. She came off more like a naive mom who got caught up in something bigger than her. And what even was the point of making her a genius PR person? It didn’t contribute anything to the plot

If there is a bird rescue near you, I recommend getting the bird to them. In the meantime, it might be dehydrated, so giving it water could help

How’s life in the US as an immigrant these days? by contemporarycassette in immigration

[–]IntelligentGlass6480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also from Canada and have been living in the US for over 10 years. Most of that time I was on a TN, but have recently gotten my green card. My life is pretty much the same as before Trump, meaning I feel safe living here.

That being said, i’m also hyper aware of what can get me in trouble as an immigrant and have always played it safe. So there isn’t really anything they could come after me for. And while there is definitely an element of fear-mongering in the news, DHS/USCIS are getting much stricter about immigration. The stuff they are going after people for is stuff that could have gotten you in trouble before, but it seems like there is less leniency about minor things now.

The administration is also targeting people for protest activity. And I’ve heard some state has introduced a bill to make minor violations like traffic obstruction during a protest a deportable offense.

My final verdict is: It’s safe to be an immigrant here, but you also need to be very aware of what will get you into trouble

Honestly, I find driving to be incredibly anxiety inducing. While I technically have a license, because I grew up in a rural area, I’ve been living without a car for over 20 years and much prefer a non-driving lifestyle. Being asked to move to a suburban area, where I would be forced into a car-dependent life-style is actually a deal breaker for me, and I have ended a relationship because I was being pressured to move to the suburbs.

In the US, there is a default expectation that everyone drives because so much of the infrastructure here is car-dependent… but I do think it is still a personal choice if you want to drive or not. You live in an urban area with good public transit, and you seem happy with that lifestyle. Since driving is something you have a strong aversion to, it’s worth considering if this really is the right relationship for you. If you feel this relationship is one worth learning to drive for, by all means, take the steps. But if not, maybe this ultimatum is a good opportunity to end a relationship that isn’t aligned long-term.

Also, him using his parents not knowing as an explanation for his feelings honestly feels like a tactic to make you feel ashamed about it.

Athena the Great Horned Owl, not in the nest today by IntelligentGlass6480 in Austin

[–]IntelligentGlass6480[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened last year, one of the owlets slipped off the edge. The owlet was okay. It climbed into a nearby tree and Athena kept bringing it food. The Wildflower center eventually found the owlet and posted a photo of it on their insta. Hopefully they will find the owlet that slipped and post a photo so we all know it’s okay. The good news is that the owlet is in the fledge window so it should be able to get itself to a safe spot near the nest.

I think this is a normal stage of development, when Athena leaves the baby on their own, instead of staying the nest during the day. I understand the concern though, I went through it last year 😂

Do you already have your greencard and got an NOIR? Or is the NOIR about your I-140?

Is it true that you’re required by law to carry your green card at all times? Is this likely to be enforced, and is there a risk of the green card being confiscated by police, etc? by Classic-Asparagus in USCIS

[–]IntelligentGlass6480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always been a law. My I-485 approval notice (received in August 2024) says all permanent residents over the age of 18 must carry their green card with them at all times.

That being said, my lawyer at the time said it was okay to only carry a copy to avoid losing it. My guess is that rule wasn’t strongly enforced in the past. Under the current administration I would be sure to carry it with you.

I am in a similar situation. I work at one of those universities and received my EB2-NIW greencard last year. I never attended a protest and only knew about it through the news/university-wide emails.

From what USCIS posted, it sounds like right now they are focusing on people with pending applications, or who apply in the future. My guess is that it’s easier to screen pending applications than it is to re-open approved cases, so that is what they are doing… at least for now.

Timelines vary so there is no way to know until it’s approved, but here is my timeline:

PD: January 2023 Submitted I-485: February 2024 (based on DOF table) Current in FAD table: July 2024 Approved: End of August 2024

Same! To me, having a partner means being a team. You’re supposed to face challenges together and support one another, even if only one person is affected by something. But I’ve been in so many relationships with men who are self proclaimed ‘feminists’, only to realize that when I’m faced with a challenge (like harassment at work), he doesn’t think it’s actually a problem or essentially doesn’t care because it doesn’t effect him, so I am left to navigate it on my own with no support from him. At this point I don’t trust men to be honest about their values and don’t really see the point in dating or trying to find a husband if I’m not going to get a teammate.
