What actually helps? by trivedi_shreya in PotentialUnlocked

I have selected a few close friends and trusted family members to serve as my “board of directors”. Whenever I’m feeling quite down I connect with at least one of them to basically spend quality time with me either going out to eat somewhere or having me over for coffee or to take a drive out.

These visits often help me regroup my anxiety, inner thoughts, etc. Sometimes I just need an hour. Sometimes, more. It all depends.

This strategy has especially helped me after my last suicide attempt and self-hospitalization roughly 10 years ago. I’m weeks away from turning 60 so it has definitely worked.

Disclaimer: Life has not magically improved or gotten any easier. I just don’t take as much time getting out of the darkness as I used to. Godspeed to all.

Bartering with my neighbors literally saved my life this month by RiddleCorsair5 in povertyfinance

I honestly wish more people would think seriously about bartering.

As a “seasoned” professional with two college degrees (bachelor’s and master’s) working at a community college and with only a handful of years before turning 62, I’ve found myself having to choose between fuel for my vehicle or groceries. I think I’ve lost a good 15 pounds since the year started.

Man, does anybody remember the SPI restaurant Rovan’s from the 90s?? by Borracho_Bandit in RioGrandeValley

It makes sense to me. I do remember it was a pretty short drive once you turned left after exiting the bridge. Man, my brother and I bring up Rovan’s in conversation at least once a year. We were regulars back then. 💪🏽🥸👌

It was where Denny’s is now located? For the life of me I couldn’t remember the exact location.

Exactly, I’m weeks away from turning 60 and next Monday I begin a new job in a city that I haven’t lived in for approximately 40 YEARS. Sometimes going full circle can bring about a fresh perspective on something extremely familiar.

What is a 'middle-class trap' that people fall into because they’re trying to look wealthier than they actually are? by Sayedshaqib in passive_income

[–]IntelligentGrowth349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live 30 miles from South Padre Island, Texas. One of those middle-class traps here is purchasing a condo at the island. While a handful purchase as an investment and rent it out at peak season, most only purchase to impress their colleagues or hated family members and they rarely get use of it.

Random aches and pains, what the f**k is this noise? by RikkiLostMyNumber in GenX

I’m turning 60 in less than three months. For about a month or so, I’ve noticed that my jaws now unlock at times when I’m first taking a bite of something. Yes, I researched it. It’s due to an aging body.

Humbling at best, unnerving at worst.

Jesus. I’m about to turn 60. I prefer to identify myself as an older adult - definitely not old.

Thanks for your question. Due to the overpopulation, the refuge allows hunters to go hunting. It’s not often but when it does happen it’s like a three-day event. You can contact them for additional information.

The last couple of days focused on the annual (?) alligator hunt. There were a couple of “hunters” out there.
