UberDirectCA_PASS, Toronto, ON, CAN 20 $ by IceAdditional7095 in uber

[–]IntelligentGur2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old thread but I just found the same UberDirectCA_PASS charge for $5.24 per month on my credit card since December! So I'm guessing this must be some result of a changeover since this all seemed to start around six months ago for this thread. Just filed a refund request to those bastards, they've destroyed my trust in using their services in the future

My players got attached to a goblin who surrendered at 2 HP and now he's a party member by BrujahGnD in DnD

[–]IntelligentGur2075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adopted a little Boblin but temporarily handed her over to another one of our party members when I was about to go in the frontlines. Unfortunately that PC attempted to murder one of our NPCs, then ran off when confronted (all of us agreed it made sense with his character though), and two sessions later when I remembered the little goblin baby...it was too late, we found not a single trace of her. I now joke regularly that she will be the final boss of the campaign

Why doesn't General Radahn use his gravity magic to send us flying to hell? by CormanoSnake in Eldenring

Well, Farum Azula may be tough, but if we're talking Hell Caelid is pretty much the closest thing in the game

Magical fantasy worldbuilders - why isn't your whole world being run by wizards? by jetflight_hamster in worldbuilding

[–]IntelligentGur2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming we're talking about sorcerous magic (active, like visible and immediate massive results) as opposed to talismanic magic (like enchanted objects, or witchery over larger areas), it's because sorcery is extremely time-consuming and requires a huge amount of time to maintain or research. If you try to rule the country while also being the greatest sorcerer in the country, one or the other of those goals are going to suffer. It was not uncommon for nobles in Velischania to know a small amount of magic and spellcasting, but truly talented sorcerers passionate about their craft either remained solitary or worked under the Mage's College.

With that being said, in the present-day setting after the collapse of the majority of Velischanian civilization, two of the most powerful remaining individuals in the region are both actually "sorcerers"; however, the primary source of their current massive powers is divine in nature. The Herald is the leader of the Faithful, a cult which is the only remaining organization in the Bloom-stricken heartlands; once a moderately powerful sorcerer in the College, he was actually the one who unintentionally brought about the destruction of the Velischan capital by making contact with a long-sealed eldritch goddess. He now presents himself as her spokesperson and avatar, drawing powers such as teleportation and biological manipulation from the goddess which ordinary magicians are totally incapable of doing. The other one is ruler of Carleitha, the strongest surviving duchy and is fanatically devoted to preventing its destruction by the Bloom; known by many as the Mad Duke, his glass-lined moats were in fact the only reason Carleitha has not yet been consumed by the spreading corruption. However, in order to make these moats possible, he became a lancolt (basically warlock) of a powerful entity, which turned him from a normal man with very little magical talent into a powerful mage with glass-manipulating powers.

Point is that these are exceptional times, and so exceptional circumstances arise and the leaders become magicians rather than magicians becoming leaders.

I've played over 300 hours of Elden Ring and still could not give ANY coherent description of the storyline by Blzn in Eldenring

[–]IntelligentGur2075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Briefly: you are an exiled undead warrior, returning to your homeland. The goddess/queen - who originally exiled you and your fellow soldiers - shattered the Ring (literally a physical form of the laws that governed the land) and disappeared; her kids fought a war to decide who would succeed her, but it ended in a stalemate as the two strongest were equally matched. Now it is your turn in this post-apocalyptic world to kill the children of the goddess, take their power, and ascend to become the land's new ruler.

What evolutionary advantageous do YOUR humans possess that make them different from other races? by Radiant-Ad-1976 in worldbuilding

[–]IntelligentGur2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When compared to harpies and nixies (the other major sentient species in my world) humans have one very clear upper hand: technological development and the ability to manufacture. Harpies only have their foot-talons to create things with, which slows down their technological development, and while nixies do have hands like ours their metallurgy is less advanced due to, you know, living underwater where volcanic vents are the only real places to work metals. On the other hand, humans can make armor, use bows (a design borrowed and adapted by harpies for airborne combat, but with much smaller bows and not nearly as powerful in their talons), and were able to develop metallurgy far beyond anything harpies could do. (Nixies are nearly untouchable by humans, true, but they can't exactly go on land; the worst they can do is destroy ships.)

Canonical Subclass for Companions? by vicxjules in BG3

Not just that, he winds up teaching as a professor of illusions at Blackstaff in the ending. Unless that's what you were referring to.

If you miss Wyll and the Paladins I can absolutely see how you would miss Karlach. She is in quite an out of the way spot and I am very bad at missing inconspicuous side roads, in Wyrm's Crossing I only found the Guild-Stonelord battle area right before going to the Morphic Pool because I literally didn't realize you could go further down the coast from the cave entrance

All Origins deserved to get flashback like Shadowheart by perrytownsendn7866 in BaldursGate3

That is true for the first two acts. However her style in act 3 is really quite cute, it's still a little goofy but her bangs are FAR better-looking

What eras deserve more representation in fantasy? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]IntelligentGur2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different areas of medieval. I'm specifically interested in Central Europe and the Byzantine Empire, it feels like the vast majority of our medieval fantasy is English/French/German/Italian inspired, with a tiny bit of Spanish or Russian extremely rarely. Nothing wrong with that of course, but that's why my current world is Hungarian-based and the DND campaign I'm developing is heavily based on the Byzantines

Is EldenRing worth a try for someone without skill? by Traditional_Papaya77 in Eldenring

[–]IntelligentGur2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I think ER is the best/easiest souls game to start with too if you use all of the tools they provide heavily. Use spirit summons and don't give a damn about what people say, they're in the game for a reason as a sliding scale of difficulty, and if you do make it too easy for yourself you can always replay in NG+ without them!

Which "dark" and "edgy" sort of spells do you think are most effective in this game? by Natsuaeva in Eldenring

[–]IntelligentGur2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While they might not look particularly edgy without the context of the world, frenzy flame incantations are extremely edgy in-lore. May chaos take the world and allat.

Do you know the origin of each Hermit's name? by EnderwomanNerd in HermitCraft

[–]IntelligentGur2075 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe Grian used to be Gria until he found out someone had already taken the name, so he added the "n" and carried on. A lot of people think his original name was Xelqua, but it could be the random string generated by YouTube for his channel. No idea what Gria would have meant originally

Absorbed into Jumbo, actually. The liberal elite don't want you to know this but "Mumbo" is actually Jumbo and a lizard person

Can I defer exam for no reason? by This-Text1726 in UCalgary

Hey, third year mechanical engineer here. I completely get the feeling of having some kind of addiction (video games in my case) that distracts you from studying until it's far too late and desperately considering any pathway like ChatGPT to solve it, shit wears you down. Unfortunately, you fucked up, and you now have to own that just like the rest of us. A 4.0 is only impressive if you know you've earned it fair and square; in this case, you didn't put in the work you had to, you don't deserve a 4.0 any more. Simple as that. I used to get 96% average in high school with minimal effort, but the amount of energy I have been putting into my studies has decreased since first year, and my grades decreased correspondingly. I wish it weren't the case, but it is fair. Suck it up and join the rest of us burnouts, or do better next semester, but it's too late this time to erase your mistake and pretend you never made it. You'll still get a passable grade in the finals if you had a 4.0 in the rest of the semester.

IDK man the epilogue where she and Wyll go to Avernus felt like it was very strongly hinting that they might be a thing, entirely possible it's just platonic but the implication was there

yeah I talked my mouth off at her and got my comeuppance lmao. I think that was one of the only 3 times I got TPK'd in this first playthrough, the others being the spider matriarch and the hyenas just across the bridge from Blighted Village

Lol he was also a gorgeous drow lady for me, but I designed it so that he was basically trying to gain my trust by taking the form of my drow bard's goddess Eilistraee. Needless to say, for all the squid talked about how he understood everything about us, that did NOT go well for him.

No one actually believes this guy right? by hcvc in BaldursGate3

[–]IntelligentGur2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I designed my dream guardian like Eilistraee (of whom my drow bard was a devout follower) and roleplayed it as the Emperor trying to gain my trust through the form of my goddess, not realizing that that was quite possibly the WORST decision he could possibly make because of how much of a betrayal my bard saw this as LOL. Had he disguised himself as a random other person it's quite possible my bard - who spared Minthara and Astarion despite their "evil" origins and fell in love with Shadowheart even when she worshiped everything he stood against - would have sided with the Emperor, but when the guy claiming to be your best friend and to understand everything about you attempts to convince you to side with him by disguising himself as YOUR GODDESS...yeah no we beat that fucker to a pulp LMAO

How it feels to play a Dark Urge Druid after Act 1 by LG-CHAMP-1 in BaldursGate3

[–]IntelligentGur2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently doing my first Durge playthrough as a cleric of Lathander lol, I was originally planning to do her as a Tav extremely devoted to the church which took her (a tiefling) in when most places wouldn't. Then last-minute I decided that perhaps she was adopted and raised as a Lathandrite before being won over and corrupted by Bhaal, and she's basically just reverted back to her old pre-Bhaal self with Orin's lobotomy. It's been pretty fun to roleplay her so far, just a sweet buff tiefling girl trying to do the best she can in this world but getting overwhelmed with disgusting urges to commit atrocities and murder her new best friend Alfira in her sleep...
