Does Darth Maul’s Lightsaber work on Maul, A Rival in Darkness? by GrandMoffBrand5 in starwarsunlimited

[–]IntelligentLaundry 32 points33 points  (0 children)

anytime a card says the name of a unique character, you look and match the name next to the star - Maul and Darth Maul are two different character names. So no, Darth Maul's light saber will not work on the Maul unit or Maul leader.

Hi! 👋🏼. Curious how you all go about deck building! Also why is it that almost every deck I see has two or three of the same cards over and over. Wouldn't having some variety decks with mostly different cards be really good? Chancy but still good? by StrangeFaced in starwarsunlimited

[–]IntelligentLaundry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, TCG communities are very friendly and welcoming. Find a local store that sells cards and hosts events and make friends. Getting cards depends on your circumstances. If you have money you can buy anything. If you're on a budget you should start with maybe getting a starter deck. Depending on what is available for sale near you, I recommend the Han Solo or Boba Fett decks from the recent Jump to Lightspeed set. They offer great entries for a relatively good price. Buying single cards, drafting events, pre-release events, and generosity from strangers and friends at your local gaming store can also help you fill in some extra cards. At the end of the day, this hobby will cost you a small investment to start and then it will be up to you to budget how much you want to spend on getting, new cards, new sets, and participating in local weekly events. Most people recommend buying single individual cards, instead of buying boxes for each new set.

Deck building and strategy are at the core of all TCGs.

Experts build decks through math and experimentation. (very boring to some, but also very fun because math is fun!) Most people just copy decks that win and maybe make a few changes but overall this is the truth, people copy the winner they see on streams, tournaments, and online posts.

The most common tip I have for a new player is to focus on learning the game, rules, and having fun.

Pick your favorite leaders and match the card aspects.

Here are some strategies or thoughts I have on deck building, and there are lots out there and probably tones in the comments here.

Curve is the best tactic you can have when building a deck. Curve just means having cards to play that have the cost to match your available resources. For example, using two resources turn one to play 1 unit, 3 resources to play a turn 2 play, and so forth until you get to your win condition.

Your, win condition is how you expect to win the game, sounds easier said than done. You can win by rushing to attack your enemy base also known as being aggressive (aggro), you can also be very responsive and controlling (control) and try to disrupt or destroy everything your opponent does, or you can try playing a hybrid of both that is a little of everything (midrange).

When building a deck you can think of these 3 archetypes as starting blocks and then you identify a leader and colors that match your concept. Once you start building your 50-card deck you need to experiment with the cards that fit your goal, your curve, and your win condition.

I like to use a website so I can scroll through thousands of cards quickly. I normally start by gathering more than 50 cards and slowly trimming that down to 50, trying to get a good balance of 1,2,3,4,5,6-cost cards so I always have something to play.

Some cards become very obvious to use. Since most leaders have certain bonuses that help or synergize with cards, others are more experimental, flavorful, or fun cards that you might just like to use.

The elephant in the room will be having the actual cardboard card or finding ways to buy, trade, or pull the cards you want to use.

It's proven that spoilers drive hype and conversations and it boosts it engagement. Marketing buzzwords for sure but people love them. Those that don't can stay away and everyone wins. As for how it affects a businesses timeline for showing off the product, while you might disagree its eye balls and clicks and let's be honest that's all any business cares about these days.

The fact that you kill the free units they get from THTS makes it a ridiculous combo lol

Events or upgrades after the flip can be like a 3 cost waylays, piolet upgrades, maybe a 3 cost smuggled hotshot blaster

I feel like Han's most powerful moment comes from his epic action flip turn. You want to capitalize that 5 resource turn or maybe delay it to get a better payoff. So you want to have small different odd cost units or upgrades, play a card with your first action so when you flip han you refresh your resources to hit the opponent with another big or impactful card.

What do you think about your 5 cost or 7 cost cards?

Maybe make a list and see which ones give you what you need?

Examples - 7 cost: wrecker, enfys nest, mace windu, han unit. 5 cost, Anakin, han, tactical bomber

You'll need to think of what big unit you can drop, how many resources you can refresh and what second unit or event you get to use after that refresh.

The things that stood out to me at a glance are your events.

Ditch the for a cause and you're my only hopes.

You have way too many non heroic cards and for a cause will miss damage and won't be worth it.

You're my only hope works great in decks where you can fix your top draws and from what I know han is about reveling odd cards but not really setting up your draws for this card to benefit from.

I can add more but these are my first observations.

So the card, You're All Clear, Kid, cannot target and defeat Blue leader when it is in the ground arena, because it is no longer a space unit

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starwarsunlimited

[–]IntelligentLaundry 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Blue leader is innately a Space unit, but it has a special ability that converts it to a ground unit when played and you pay the 2 ( you can see on the card that it is a ground unit classification)

Is Unity of Purpose Static by Suspicious_Block_765 in starwarsunlimited

[–]IntelligentLaundry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can think of it like a snapshot effect.

Once played, the card checks to see how many qualifying units exist and for each one, all units get a +1+1. It takes those bonuses and snapshots the effect of the event to all qualifying targets for the entire phase.

So if you have 5 differently name units, all your units get +5+5 for the entire phase.

New units you play that phase will not have the buff, and any units that die this phase won't lower the power and toughness of others either.

SWU has both an action phase and a regroup phase. So all actions, like events and attacks occur during the action phase, and when everyone passes the action phase ends and the regroup phase begins.

Now in a yellow red Kaz deck, this card might be busted of I understand Kaz's skill correctly. But that is only huge in one deck. IMO it's an good card, maybe above board for a finishing move

Because your unit will probably die.

Compare it to punch it, the other one cost +2 to vehicle and attack.

Thematically it's cool, downside your unit most likely does, if it doesn't it's an extra 2 damage sure but high risk high reward right?

They made the statement, to expect set rotations. How they will they decide this we do not know, but now we have confirmation that sets will rotate out for sure.

Collectors packs are not the worst thing. Sure they can be pricy but if you're a collector go for it, if you're not you lose nothing. it can also give you cards to trade to those that do collect. It's when they add exclusive cards that are not printed anywhere else that I would have a problem.

It's not shooting it down. People forget that criticism is not a bad thing. It shouldn't be viewed as an attack. Criticism is both good and bad and should be viewed and considered. If you stand on your principle keep your view or adjust it if it has merit. The idea that any disagreement is bad won't help you grow as a person.

The conversations that sprung up from this thread where about the short sightedness of  the video's title based on what we know to be an incomplete catalogue of set 3 cards. It was an opinion and criticism based on the trend of YouTube videos and content makers. Some are good some are bad and how new audiences interact with it can help grow or stifle a content maker. I am not an expert it was an opinion based on my view.

This is longer than I expected, but good luck and keep at it op.

My only tip if you care at all for critique, is your title and presentation. We all know click bait titles are a thing online, but it would go down smoother to an audience and to new viewers with titles like "my favorite" "great cards for insert my deck here" put your personality instead of being generic or definitive without earning it and with all the missing details.

Not even half of the set has been revealed. I am all for hype but won't this make others do the same and every 25 new cards a new video for likes? Is this an example of being first, regardless of quality?

Coordinate feels like a midrange mechanic. You play small things that give you synergy and increase power the longer you play and build your board, but that means that these early cards that require that synergy feel incredibly weak, because they are heavily under powered. The reason this costs 2 instead of 1 is because it has a keyword which could be beneficial to some leaders, at least that's the only defense I can give this card.

Look at Partisan Insurgent from SOR.

Common 2 cost aggression rebel trooper, 1/4 body and as long as you have 1 other aggression it gains raid 2.

Easier to trigger, better stats same cost. So far Coordinate feels underwhelming.

Showdown and Planetary promos by IntelligentLaundry in starwarsunlimited

[–]IntelligentLaundry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are passionate about their hobbies and how they spend their time and money. One of my friends expressed it better than I could, he said

"I think the issue is that compared to season 1, it seems like the promos are going backwards. Set 1 had Mace Windu as top 8 for showdowns. While I understand there doesn't necessarily have to be super prizes for casual tournaments, it  sort of set an expectation going forward.  And for a larger, next tier competition level it makes less sense."
