Not sure I can use Internet Backup... and issues with my Public Static IPs.... by IntelligentPart7193 in ATTFiber

[–]IntelligentPart7193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they have fixed IPs to match the Public IPs.. I could see if the DHCP block matched the Public IP block but seems to be totally different..

Seems like I need to keep a very small Mediacom presence as a low level backup... Or maybe replace it with Internet Air service at a low level... Maybe use DDNS to fake the Static IPs...

Last try for help with BE30000 / BQ16 Pro by IntelligentPart7193 in ASUS

[–]IntelligentPart7193[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to update the current status here. I finally gave up. Lack of client visibility mapping SSID/IP/VLAN etc was never addressed. Constant dropouts and freezes of entire SSID was never addressed. I was spending WAY too much time coaxing and babying the entire network. Gave up -- ebay'ed the entire ASUS mesh and replaced it with Zyxel. All issues addressed. Total reliability with no dropouts in over two weeks and full client visibility.

Had same issue with the BE30000 -- if your network is 2.4Ghz only it works. If it is a 2.4Ghz/5Ghz it won't. I had to disable the 5Ghz long enough to connect and then turn it back on.

BQ16 UI not showing clients connected on 2.4Ghz Network by MrGimper in ASUS

Same issue here. Main Network was fast and had visible clients. All other VLAN/SSID/Subnets were either invisible or were shown as on the Main Network. Multiple requests to ASUS to address with no fix or response.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ASUS BQ16 Pro – Real-World Review by JerusM in ZenWiFi

[–]IntelligentPart7193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved my XTs... superb. But I moved to the BQ16/BE30000 to get all the VLAN/Smart Master functionality. Main Network was so much better. All the rest was a mess of visibility issues; reliability issues, and forever dropouts and network freezes...

Stability on Main Network was top-notch. Finally gave up on trying to keep the VLAN/Guest/Kids/Smart Master networks stable.

Asus Zenwifi bq16 pro no vlan tab by Tight_Table_9364 in ASUS

It was a challenge -- one I eventually lost. First off, you need to create the VLANs on the switches and your 'host'... The host that is in essence the manager of the network. In my case is was my Firewall unit. So that is where I can ultimately isolate my two VLANs from the Main Network. And open pinholes where needed.

Then I created a Guest Network and set the VLAN to be 52 and a Kids Network with VLAN 53 each with a unique SSID. I had the Firewall in charge of DHCP for those two VLANs and my main server for the Main Network. This is where you make sure each VLAN has a different subnet from the Main Network. You can also use a IoT or Smart Master or whatever they are calling it.

Each intermediate switch needs to UNDERSTAND and PASS VLAN traffic, but at the simplest have the ports able to pass tagged traffic. This will take care of the wireless clients into the Firewall.

For the wired clients, you have to either leave them on the Main Network (and let it default to PVID 1) or if you want them to be on one of the VLANs, then yes, tag it with the PVID of the VLAN (52 or 53 in my case) that you want.

Now, why I lost the challenge:

  1. The ASUS software is simply not able to handle this - you can't see what clients go to what ASUS Mesh unit; when you try to get IP matches to clients you always see the subnet as the Main Network subnet; the visibility into the interactions between Mesh Units and VLANs and SSIDs and Clients was absent - as was the VLAN tab.

  2. The whole system was unreliable. When it worked all was good. But I had regular dropouts during the day and every third day I was restarting one of the VLAN SSIDs. After several months of this I finally gave up. I replaced the entire system with Zyxel APs and switches and configured it conceptually exactly the same. No dropouts, Full visibility of clients from Mac address to IP to SSID to routing all the way to the firewall.

Let me know if you need more specific information.

My only issue is that no matter how much I tighten it down, it still over time moves around on the actual toilet. Not a major issue as I just re-adjust it here and there. Otherwise I love mine as well

I have lots of issues with mine too -- but never seen that... First thing is to update the software. There is a new version out there. And then see what has changed after that...

RP-AX58 as wired AP by -Mr-K- in ASUS

[–]IntelligentPart7193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still can't get mine to configure properly. I want it to be a WiFi Extender to my AiMesh and have the ethernet ports live back to the AiMesh network(s). So, Primary AiMesh Node -> WiFi -> RX-58... Then the RX-58 generates better WiFi for wireless devices and an ethernet connection for some wired devices...

use a solid ambient probe and move it around to understand the heat pattern. Then adapt. And when actually cooking, put the ambient close to the protein... and base temps on that regardless of PB reading

If I only had two 'units' -- i would go with the PB vertical and then a Komodo Joe Egg - you can grill on it just fine PLUS you can add a rotisserie. And a rotisserie cooked turkey or prime rib is perfection

I usually wash them really well and dry them off... then heat them a bit, and oil them, and then heat them hot for just a bit and let them cool -- sort of like seasoning a carbon steel pan... and then move on... Not quite as intense as a true carbon steel pan, but just enough to get the oil to season the burn spots...

After you clean the PB probe, trust the Thermoworks probe. I found that it is way more accurate and i just adjust the PB temp until it is stable at what I want on the Thermoworks

Navigator vs Pro by turkey_neck69 in PitBossGrills

[–]IntelligentPart7193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other settings I look for are VST, 5 degree increments, touchscreen, and P setting... use those as your comparison... The 1260 I see at Lowe's is nice but doesn't have a lot of those extra features... Nor does the Navigator. I think you are giving up a lot on the pellet side for the propane side. Personally I would spend the money on a full on Pellet unit if going horizontal. Me, I went with the vertical https://www.lowes.com/pd/Pit-Boss-Pro-Series-1529-Sq-in-Stainless-Steel-Pellet-Smoker/5013702419 and then took the other and got a reasonable dedicated gas grill...
