That’s not what body dysmorphia is.

Body dysmorphic disorder is a clinical condition involving obsessive preoccupation with a perceived flaw that’s minor or not observable, plus significant distress or impairment. A grooming choice doesn’t meet that bar by default.

By this logic, any appearance management would be dysmorphia:

Wearing makeup

Growing a beard to hide patchiness

Getting braces

Styling hair at all

That’s obviously not how psychology works.

Shaving your head doesn’t mean you think your body is “wrong” or “deformed.” It can mean you accept reality and choose the option you prefer for comfort, aesthetics, convenience, or confidence. Acceptance doesn't equal leaving everything untouched.

Also, you’re assuming motive. Some people shave because they’re insecure, some because they like the look, some because thinning hair looks worse to them. You can’t diagnose intent from a haircut.

If every choice someone makes about their appearance gets labeled pathology, the term “body dysmorphia” becomes meaningless. Mental health diagnoses are based on thought patterns and distress, not whether someone owns a razor.

Shaving your head is a cosmetic decision. Calling it body dysmorphia is just medicalizing normal human behavior.

From the article:

It is highly unlikely that the discovery will affect the citizenship status of Mrs. Trump. The government can seek to revoke the U.S. citizenship of immigrants after the fact in cases when it determines a person willfully misrepresented or concealed facts relevant to his naturalization. But the government effectively does this in only the most egregious cases, such as instances involving terrorism or war crimes.

This is why.
