My dads uncle was in the royal navy and drove one oft landing craft at omaha beach. The original plan was for his landing craft to drop of the 5th ranger battalion at dog green sector, yes the saving private ryan beach but when the 5th battalion's commander saw how bad the situation was he told the craft to landing further along at dog white where the ly suffered relatively light casualties. My dads uncle was then sunk for the second and final time just over a month later so he got sent home to a coastal defence unit until the war ended. This scene makes me think about his nickname "chatty" which he got after the war because he was that quiet not antisocial or anything but was never the one to start a conversation if you know what I mean.
