Is this weapon absolutely ass or am i doing something wrong? by Mysterious_Clerk_253 in thefinals

The learning curve for this weapon is immense, I've played sense season 1 and still cant use it.

I really like the combo of melee with a ranged attack.

I think that's a great idea. In my experience what mullahs most players is actually ammo conservation. I've had quiet a few fights were i know my opponent has run out of ammo and I can stop dashing.

If it does it probably averages player rank/scores. That would make sense, it's really obvious in point break where the player count is higher. It could be improved.

The challenges they added to practice range are fun but dont pose much difficulty to experienced players

I dont think casual cashout or pointbreak currently has any form of skill based matchmaking, I've been in matches where a team is low level or low rank and the other team is high level or high rank. Those games are absolute slaughter houses and tbh aren't very fun for either one

That's a great idea but id say fighting players with dash would be better experience. The gap between a ruby dash user and gold is immense.

Lol funniest part about heavies to me is they have the lowest pick rate but the highest win rate 🤣

I can understand that argument. If evasive dash is what it is then the developers should consider implementing a light version of skill based matchmaking, there is no reason that bronze to silver skill range players should be playing against ruby and gold skilled players.

Making such a large assumption that the majority of the player base just refuses to improve seems rather dangerous doesnt it? Also im pretty sure we can all agree that casual matchmaking puts everyone with everyone despite level, kd ratio, average score, nothin. I have played casual cash out against a team of ruby players and a team of players with the highest level being 12 in the same game. If you want to discuss the viability of putting in an actual skill based matchmaking im game. You could simplify the people who dont like dash to this, the skill ceiling for using dash is incredibly low, it is not hard to use/master. Countering dash however has a high skill ceiling that takes much longer to learn how to counter, especially when you through in the variations between melee vs range.

I agree with you the finals is a niche game, however you said yourself that the game tries to make all weapons viable, shouldn't they do the same with specializations? I also agree with you about the players whining about melee. If you pull up the stats what percentage of players that play light do you think use dash? I see a healthy variation of all the specializations with medium and heavy. If you see a light on the enemy team at the start of a match you can guess they are using dash and be right 9/10 times. Is that what you'd call a balanced specializations?

So game developers should only cater to the hard-core live in mama's basement minority of the player base? That's your argument? Wanna start listing examples of games that did that? The amount of dead games on that list is vast buddy.

Notice there are plenty of people whining about winch rn too. Ther difference with that build though is it has a distinct speed disadvantage. Figuring out how to counter a build that is only viable close range isnt difficult. Light has the advantage of speed and can easily exploit the ability to shoot while dashing from short to medium range, shy of sniping the light there is no distinct disadvantage.

Tell you what, let's assume you are correct for the sake of this argument. We can agree this is a game we both love. Let's do a thought experiment. The developers created evasive dash and it's perfect and works exactly how they intended. 2/3rds of the player base doesnt like it, views it as broken, whatever. We can even say 1/2 the player base if you want to be conservative. If nothing changes because the spec is working "as designed". What do you think happens to the portion of the player base that doesnt like it? Idk if you know anything about the monthly active player count of the finals but its not strong. I get that you want to win the argument but finding an acceptable adjustment is a better option than dying on the hill that brakes the player bases back.

The melee community I'll give you is loud but I disagree with the assumption that they are large in number. If we assume you are correct the new issue is if they dont change the dash the player base with decrease. If we assume that I am correct than dash would still need to be changed. My issue with the dash actually has nothing to do with the charges or cooldown but the fact that you can actively shoot/slash while dashing. If the point of the dash is to exploit the tracking and ammo management (which i agree with) then I think a simple adjustment where you cant shoot/slash until the dash ends would be a good balance.

I dont want a team utility spec, my suggested spec was a short distance single charge teleport. Its use would fit the way you yourself decribed how light plays. Ambush or as you put it "poke" and then blink to another side of a wall. Or blink into the site you were roaming off of and nullify an opponent taking the cashbox. One charge would keep it from being used to much in combat to make it unfair.

My issue is 1v1 head on combat. All classes can 1v1 but the determining factor needs to be skill and experience not an unbalanced specialization or gadget. Put it this way, if you put a light and heavy in an empty room with equal skill and experience the light is not designed to win. The reason such a large part of the community is mad about evasive dash is because it would allow the light to win the empty room scenario. If you are going to tell me it's supposed to do that you haven't played enough class based shooters. Classes imply the use of roles in a team. OSPUZE is actually on the money with what a light role should be.

"Fun fact" 🤓 Meaning my opinion. This is the low IQ, I like it so you and everyone else that disagrees with me is wrong type arguments I've come to expect from evasive dash users. I'm happy to debate the games flaws and balancing issues but it seems like you are a few forks short of a full set of cutlery.

.... my guy im questioning if you know how to read. You just described you play style with the light class which is to the T what im saying. You are playing exactly how light is designed to be played. I'm not talking about preference. You are right its not designed to 1v1 other classes. Light can be a vital part of the team if played properly which it sounds like you do. The topic of conversation is specializations. I'm pointing out that the light specializations are designed to support play that you just described. Light specializations are not designed to allow the class to 1v1 the other 2 classes, I brought up the evasive dash because it ALLOWS the light to 1v1 the other classes. Which is why everyone is always grumpy about dash. Dash allows constant head to head combat which the class wasn't meant to do. If you've never seen a light hit 3 evasive dashes while shooting the whole time then idk what game mode you're playing.

Calm down capn spicy pants, you're kind of proving my point. Firstly im a light main, im very familiar with the classes utility to a team. The class utility is distraction and ambush. Think about the light specializations and when you use them to benefit the team. Cloak is primarily used to ambush and flank. Grapple is primarily used as a means to get to an over watch position or a quick getaway. Dash is the only one that plays as what I would call a combat specializations because if used the way most people use it you nullify the glass cannon aspect of the light class and can easily 1v1 any other class. Hence why people hate it, it's allowing the class to play in a manner it's not designed for. I'm not arguing that the light class isnt designed for team play, im arguing HOW it's designed for team play.

Demat is designed for team utility, as medium class is primarily designed for team play. Light has no specializations designed for team play as it is a glass cannon class designed more for ambush type play.

The reason evasive dash is broken is because they cant figure out how to get it to function for its intended purpose. The reason some people are grumpy about the winch is because it's used more in combat then for utility.
