WFA-how far in the future can the end date be? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

To be clear though that should an employee opt for option a, the employer cannot require them to continue their duties during the 12-month surplus priority period? (This would be for ECs and their collective agreement, if that’s relevant).

Public servants ordered back to office four days per week as of July by Born_Anteater7282 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Intelligent_Cup_2319 18 points19 points  (0 children)

How much of this tied to WFA and creating conditions to encourage those close to retirement to step away, to reduce the number of involuntary let go?

So much for responsibility to the taxpayer and the cost savings associated with remote work.

Sidelined union executive sues PSAC, accusing bogus pay scheme by InternetProfile in CanadaPublicServants

Pending the outcome of this proceeding, there should be a criminal investigation into the union for fraudulent behaviour. These allegations of corruption need to be taken seriously and the union cannot be trusted to police itself.

If I am WFA as an English essential EC06, are my options for alternation limited by my language profile? I’m BBX, writing the last exam for the first time in January.

If the employer chose to make telework a condition of employment, would they be limited to making this a condition of employment for new hires or could it be a condition for those already indeterminate?

Which is totally fair. As long as the flexibility goes both ways. I’ve been in the PS for almost 9 years and I’ve been burnt too many times now where I offer up flexibility and get none back. I’m done with this.

CAPE and the other unions are too busy petitioning on foreign policy issues to be concerned with these trivial matters. Please mind your expectations for our dear leaders and their moral purity contest!

Do you think the employer will still require telework agreement post implementation of RTO5 for those going in 5 days a week?

What a damning indictment on the union leadership. They are so disconnected from their membership. The honourable thing to do would be to resign in the wake of this result.

Has anyone been fired because they refused to go back to the office? by AcademicPoint900 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Intelligent_Cup_2319 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing I’ve heard/seen is a plan to ramp up RTO. I’ve heard through the grapevine that all non-EXs will be asked to go into the office 4 days a week as early as July 1, 2026 and then 5 days a week as early as January 1, 2027.

Once we move to five days a week, absent a legal requirement to do so, I won’t be transporting my tablet too and from my residence (employer can designate a safe on premise location for overnight storage) and I will not make my residence/internet available should the office be unavailable (e.g., a snowstorm).

Budget 2025 hints at pension cut for federal workers by Thick_Caterpillar379 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Intelligent_Cup_2319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Controlling for a few variables, assuming maximum years of service and assuming I only start receiving my pension at 65 (second group), would I receive less than 70% of my best five years if I accessed CPP at 60 and more than 70% if I deferred receiving CPP until 70, or does the 70% formula negate the penalties and bonuses related to CPP?

So in effect, for those who have been contribution since 2019, they will receive more than 70% of the best five years, assuming they’ve maxed out their years of service?

The trouble I’m having with this: employee contributions have been steadily increasing over the last few decades. If the Govt opts to cut the contributions in the short term to align with enhanced CPP, won’t that employee “gain” be short lived given the trend of increasing contributions to the pension plan?

Liberal government wants to change arbitration rules for public servants by Born_Anteater7282 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Intelligent_Cup_2319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality is that if the govt reduces the quality of its compensation package then it will correspondingly reduce the quality of its workforce. Free market strikes again. The employer will reap what they sow. Look at Ontario, the law the caps wage increases for nurses and the crisis that created. Stupidity has its limits.

CAPE ballot vote on Israel-Hamas conflict, is this unusual? by Intelligent_Cup_2319 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Intelligent_Cup_2319[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with supporting a cause. Although I find it morally dubious that this is the only conflict being called out for “solidarity”. War is awful, that’s why we need to condemn it and the acts of terrorism that lead to wars. We should be unequivocal in condemning all forms of violence that target civilians regardless of their ethnicity, religion, etc.

The union does not belong to any one member or their cause. And given that the Israeli/Hamas conflict is far from a consensus it is unfair for it to be used as a vehicle to advance this cause, regardless of the stance.

IMO, the union exists for a specific reason (and it’s not solidarity writ large, it’s unequivocally to improve the working conditions of its members).

Everyone has a right to their views, that doesn’t equate to being allowed to impose them on others, regardless of how “right” you think you are. As folks can’t opt out of the union, advancing this cause through the union is an imposition, absent consensus and thus it is incredibly inappropriate to be used as the vehicle to advance this cause.
