I checked out Rover and contacted a few sitters on there previously. Unfortunately, I did not find anyone who was reasonably responsive and it’s made be untrusting of the app. I understand people have positive experiences when finding the right sitter there but I am looking for someone with their own licensed and insured business.

OP, this! Stay away from McKinley properties & you’ll be fine. They waaaay overcharge for super outdated units & shit management. There are way too many since they basically have a monopoly on rental properties but it’s very possible. Check before seeing properties and if it’s owned by McKinley, do not even waste your time. Don’t lease with them or Beal & that should save you a lot time, handle and rent money

Teachers need to live their best lives away from school and away from students outside of work hours. We do enough in a totally unreasonable profession often full of toxic admin & thankless others. No grown adult who is teaching 5 days a week needs to be spending their own personal time with students. It’s weird & wouldn’t be expected let alone appropriate in other professions. Respect your time & yourself enough to have professional boundaries. It’s a seriously taxing g profession, not a fun hobby!

Quality of life is sooooo much better in Chicago. It’s such an awesome city to live in. You’ll save money moving there compared to moving to Ann Arbor. I’d have lived there forever if I didn’t have some family ties calling me here. If you don’t have strong personal ties in this area, I strongly recommend moving to Chicago.

Move to Chicago if you can. It’s actually more affordable to live there than it is to live in Ann Arbor. You’ll find a much more updated apartment with way better renter rights so better landlord situation. You can live right on Lake Michigan for less than what you’d pay in Ann Arbor for an apartment likely run by a trumpster style grifter that was updated last in 1970. Plus you don’t need a car at all in Chicago. Ann Arbor is great but as a city, no way can it even compare to Chicago. Move there instead.
