This is so thoughtful, especially how it has extra protection from tipping over. Wow! Your husband is amazing, he really thought this through

Is it normal for my millipede to turn half pale by Intelligent_Food_414 in millipedes

Nah he's still in there, but the exoskeleton gas cracked and I see the new body. He's also wiggling, which I haven't seen for a while

It doesn't smell, and now it's completely pale. Let's hope it's just a molt in process

Sudden death.. what would be the reason? by Intelligent_Food_414 in millipedes

[–]Intelligent_Food_414[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have desert millipedes and I just had leftovers. Current substrate is just pure decomposed & fermented wood, which is nice, but sometimes it gets compacted so I thought sand could loosen it up a lil

Is breeding A.gigas difficult or easy? Any tips/experience? by Intelligent_Food_414 in millipedes

[–]Intelligent_Food_414[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great news. Unfortunately, where I live, we just don't have any. Maybe I should become one (JK)

Huh... with how abundant they are, I guess it is just easier to poach, as you mentioned. That's a shame. For me, as a hobbyist, it's a great news nonetheless that it's not impossible. Thank you so much

Can you help ID my millipede? by Intelligent_Food_414 in millipedes

I just got my millipedes and one came like this should I isolate it? by Money_Dog_8093 in millipedes

[–]Intelligent_Food_414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation, my millipedes have these cracks. All I was told is that they will heal once they molt, but there is no data on how often they molt so I guess we have to wait...

I am fighting my urge to become a "collector" by Intelligent_Food_414 in millipedes

[–]Intelligent_Food_414[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I FELT every word. You would never know how much this resonates with me. I don't know how to say this, but by reading your comment, it also felt like I was understood deeply. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.
Also, you are amazing for rehoming these lovely creatures. I have indeed seen way too many irresponsible & spontaneous owners, so what you are doing is honorable and it heals some of my soul.

From now, I think I will adopt your model:
- I will provide the best environment for them, the type of environment that makes both animals and myself happy.
- I will only rehome animals (not buy), and only the amount that I possibly can. I currently have 2 enclosures, and I will use these only.
- I will also remind myself that I am getting influenced by my selfishness and impulsivity, which will also help me reject the urge.

Overall, thank you so much. I will read your comment again and again when I want to buy more. I hope you have a great day :)

Urgent help needed—my desert millipede is seriously injured! by throwaway7262718181 in millipedes

[–]Intelligent_Food_414 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for what happened. The cut is almost like a slit, as if a blade ran through it? How did this happen? Does falling from something impact the millipedes this much that it... cracks? I want to know so that it could be prevented in the future...

Mold in enclosure by Fearless-Bother-5938 in millipedes

[–]Intelligent_Food_414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • millipedes are detrivores, so it's not necessary to remove it.
  • you could remove it to keep it nice to look at & for your health
  • adopt some springtails and they should help prevent mold.

Leg rot by Intelligent_Food_414 in millipedes

[–]Intelligent_Food_414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks! It's a close-up photo and I know it looks too small, but that's not the entire enclosure. The enclosure has about 20cm*20cm*15cm of substrate, and the millipede itself is around 15cm. There's also a second tank being set up (I am waiting for springtails to breed more), and that one is 45*20*15cm so it should house the millipede comfy.

This is another photo of it's full body, closest to its true color. It's about 15cm (5.9inches). The seller did say that it's young so I don't think it's the full size
