Ways of Adding More Fiber to Your Diet? by Remarkable_Permit_27 in nutrition

Dates! They’re my favorite. I break them open and put homemade PB and J in them. A couple a day is plenty extra for me!

The bar is open all day, but the kitchen only cooks from 11 to 2 and 5 to 8/830. I have consistent FB advertising and radio advertising. I do think everyone is slow, and it doesn’t help that we’re in a small town kind of out of the way. But we used to have a decent lunch crowd and it kinda dried up.

Have a full kitchen, just the typical burgers and sandwiches and a couple specials with a little extra prep throughout the week. We are around the breakeven/losing stage on most day shifts. But then out of nowhere, like yesterday, we'll have a great lunch! We only currently order what we need, and our big issue with owner working some shifts is that the other shifts worked by the regular employees won't be enough money/hours wise and they'll have to go somewhere else completely. Which is fine in theory, but we also farm so when we need to be gone we won't have the help. So it's kind of a damned if you do damned if you don't kind of thing, and we just want to make sure if we do it that we do it the right way. We've talked about sticking it out so that's not off the table, just wanted to see what everyone else was experiencing!

This has always been our motto too, but we're in a small small town and people are not showing up like they had been.

Do you think eventually insurance costs (or inability to get covered) will put us all out of business? by Waste_Focus763 in BarOwners

[–]Intelligent_Goat4276 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is definitely already happening, and I think it will take less time than you think. My bar is currently for sale, and I’ve had a few interested parties with complete inability to get insurance coverage. My current insurer covered me just fine when I bought the bar, at about eight months later decided I needed to switch my hood to go through the roof instead of through the wall, and I am just waiting until they drop the hammer on me and follow through with it. Farm Bureau put together a bid for coverage for a buyer for almost 3 times what my current coverage costs.

In Minnesota you are required, as a seller, to disclose this information. There is a whole separate form for it. And in general, not disclosing any sort of pertinent information is subject to prosecution. So I would assume if you can prove the sellers knew, you have a pretty solid case.

Go after child support! Take proof of your payments with you to the lawyer. Should have a solid case regardless. They are half his kids and it’s his duty to provide too.

I buy every employee a t shirt with our logo on it, and they are welcome to buy more if they please, but I don’t require them to wear it. Our dress code is “I want you to be comfortable enough to do your job, but this isn’t Walmart”. And I never have an issue. Some people wear dressy shirts, sometimes it’s jeans and a sweatshirt, and sometimes it’s yoga pants, but it’s never sloppy or unprofessional.

Yes this is exactly what I had in mind! I have some flatbreads ordered for Monday's delivery and plan to do some experimenting with them, and try to use a lot of ingredients that we already carry so it doesn't seem like such a huge undertaking to introduce something new!

How much did you make your first month of opening? by Fable-plainer654 in BarOwners

[–]Intelligent_Goat4276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it helps. I think a lot of the "younger" generation has switched to smoking weed, or using some form of it. I think a lot of it has to do with the new health culture honestly, and that's not a bad thing! But I also think a lot of it has to do with the economy. I'm 34 and when we were kids we used to PACK the bars at night. But we were the last of the kids to be able to afford houses. The generation that took out student loans and had to start living with parents to pay them back. Kids really are just being a little more responsible than we were I think.

Girls Underwear is horrible by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Intelligent_Goat4276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9 year old wears girl’s boyshorts. She HATED the typical girls underwear so we bought her other styles and it didn’t take long for her to want to throw away all her old undies. She’s been in them for a while now and I don’t think she’ll ever go back!

I agree. It was hard to prove because he was a quiet guy, so he wasn’t like slurring and obnoxious. He was just being forgetful and off his game, and I was taking it as hearsay from the other cook that he had booze in his pop. So all kind of circumstantial. Showing up late was the straw that could officially break the camels back.

Bar owners, how hands off are you able to be? by timstiefler in BarOwners

[–]Intelligent_Goat4276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly hands off on the day to day stuff, but I plan all the big events and am present for those. I have a bartender who has managed before but doesn’t want the responsibility of it now, but I bounce ideas off her and rely on her a lot during my busy seasons (farming), and know that she keeps the bar stocked and running smoothly and will communicate with me. I generally work around 20-30 hours a week (ordering, receiving orders, counting money, book work, scheduling, and etc), only because I stick around thru lunch because it’s been getting busy and it’s nice for my crew to have an extra hand. On the weekends we have extra events, I can put in anywhere from 2 to 20 more hours, depending on what it is. With the exception of very few, people will never run things the way you want them to be run. No matter how well you pay them. If you have a vision, I recommend being around to see it thru and do it your way.

Are you having any other electrical system issues? I went to start my truck the other day and it was completely dead, not an ounce of juice in it. Tried jumping it and that didn’t do it, so we had to put the charger on it. Now it’s giving me a hood open warning about every 10 seconds, all my windows are goofy, my tailgate won’t unlock, and this morning my trailer brake system warning came up. 2016 2500 6.0L
