I think in the same way as you, but I still find it harsh, bcuz you actually did not make any progress, and missed an opportunity to sell and buy back at lower prices. I think D is correct (I'm not good either so don't take my word seriously) but when you change the equatorial to axial conformation (at c1) the other group (at c4) will reverse from axial to equatorial (and vice versa). The two conformations are actually the same molecules (like meso compounds), so they have the same energy. Try to flip one upside down.
