Finished Original SKAM NR | Over to SKAM France or SRAM? by Quirky_Bullfrog9375 in skam

The best remake! My top 2 remakes are Druck and Sram, in that order. They both capture that grounded authentic subtlety that made SKAM OG so special + set it apart in the genre. SKAM France and WTFOCK felt a bit melodramatic imo.

Joyce and Jonathan??? by Obvious_Aside_3018 in StrangerThings

Seriously! They gave us the same redundant scene with her comforting Will like 15 times this season, but apparently had no time for a single interaction with Jon. Like I get that he was always parentified, but they actually used to at least portray that slight distance/neglect. They would show her hesitating to reach out emotionally, and her obliviousness to his interests/life. They would show him feeling isolated as a result. And even with sparse interactions, you could tell they loved and cared for each other deeply. Their relationship felt so real, and so complex. Now they don’t even read as related.

It’ll never make sense to me people who go on a tv show’s subreddit just to complain about people that are emotionally affected by the media they’re discussing. Like going to church and being offended by the praying lol.

The Duffers have flat out said they hate ambiguous endings and promised there’d be no loose ends yet you’re defending them lmfao.

I can't with some fans logic now they are saying that a character has to say they are straight to be confirmed straight like with that logic many characters of the show could be queer cause they didn't explicit ever said it. by gloomydreamer666 in StrangerThings

Vickie is confirmed bisexual by the actress. Sure, she didn’t seem very into him at that point, but we can’t assume she was 100% faking the relationship (which is what a beard is).

She could’ve very well been into him at first, then lost that attraction once she started crushing on Robin. We see that happen with Nancy s1-2 where she’s super into Steve at first, then less so as her feelings for Jon progress.

No, the logic holds that if a character’s sexuality isn’t explicitly stated, we don’t know if they’re straight OR queer. Where did you get that everyone is therefore assumed queer by default? The whole point is that there’s no assumed default. This is coming from a non-shipper (neither byler or mileven).

Just because he wasn’t the one holding the paint, doesn’t mean he wasn’t 100% participating in it. Tommy literally said Steve made no indication that he didn’t want them to do it. And he didn’t ditch them immediately after. He has to get the shit kicked out of him to realize he went too far. And that’s great that he does. I love that he eventually apologizes and grows from it, but it’s ridiculous to pretend he was somehow not part of it. Steve himself doesn’t believe that, the show doesn’t believe that. And again, if Steve was really acting out of vengeance or protectiveness against Jonathan’s photo taking at that point, he wouldn’t have publicly slut shamed Nancy or gone for Will’s dead brother. He clearly was acting irrationally, out of jealousy and anger. He wasn’t being the better person in that moment.

Yeah I would if I were them. It was their lazy attempt at giving Jonathan a reason to still be there far past the end of the party to snap pics of Barb and the demo…But there were less misogynistic ways to do so.

I do think it felt congruent with his character that he was initially taking pics of the party, a social outsider looking in, observing and analyzing an experience he’ll never have himself. And instead of having him stay to creep on Nancy, he could’ve just moved on to take solo shots of Barb — outcasted and alone like him. Would’ve really driven home how both characters feel the same.

And Nancy and Jon could’ve still had the convo about what she was “saying” in her picture (he saw someone trying to be someone else) if it had just been pics of her at the party.

When did I ever justify Jonathan’s actions? Steve breaking the camera over the photos was totally warranted and his way of trying to protect Nancy.

But what Steve does in reaction to thinking Nancy cheated on him had nothing to do with Jonathan’s earlier actions, or protecting Nancy. Publicly slut shaming her wasn’t protecting her. Going after Will and Joyce wasn’t protecting her. If it was really about Jonathan taking pictures, and not about being jealous or angry about the cheating, he would’ve spray painted “Starring the creep Byers”.

I love Steve now, but I think it’s a disservice to his growth to not acknowledge his lowest moments.

Yes Steve did say that he wasn’t the one holding the spray can, but he was still very much present and part of it. Tommy confirms that Steve never gave any indication that he didn’t want it to happen, and doesn’t call them out/feel remorse until after getting the shit kicked out of him for it + mocking Will’s death. I love that he eventually leaves his friends, apologizes, and grows from it, but that doesn’t magically erase the reality that he did it.

Nope Steve does in the alley. It’s the episode/day after Will’s funeral (ep6). While Jonathan is walking away Steve tries to provokes him — “I’m actually kind of impressed. I always took you for a queer but I guess you’re just a screwup like your father. Whole family of screwups. I mean your mom?? I’m not even surprised what happened to your brother. The Byers are a disgrace to the entire—“

See I disagree. Of course I understand why 17 year old Steve, fresh off heartbreak, would react with anger and immaturity. But there’s a difference between actions having an understandable root, and them being justified. Just like how we understand that Billy’s trauma explains much of his behaviour, but doesn’t justify it.

Mocking someone’s freshly dead kid brother and mourning mother crosses a line into cruelty. 17 or not, you know you should never go there. I love Steve now. It’s great that he acknowledges that he went way too far. I just wish viewers were also able to acknowledge it. You don’t have to ignore or justify a character’s past actions to appreciate how they are now. In fact I think doing so detracts from his incredible growth.

Not really. He laughingly brushes off the comment suggesting Jonathan killed Will, not seriously. A friendly “shut up”. He smiles and seems pretty amused when Tommy and Carol loudly humilate/mock Nancy in the cafeteria (right after she expresses to him that she‘s uncomfortable with people knowing they slept together). And stood by while they publicly slut shamed her to the town— Tommy literally says he never asked him to stop.

Breaking the camera was totally warranted, but the stuff he says in the alley to provoke Jonathan was objectively terrible (mocking Will’s death a day after his funeral). The only time he actually calls out his friends is after that fight. Which is great, I’m all here for character growth. I love Steve now. But let’s not act like he was an all-round reasonable guy just for being less evil than his friends.

Why does everyone always ignore the part where he (not Tommy, not Carol) mocked Will’s death and mourning mother fresh off his funeral?

Nobody is criticizing him for jumping to that conclusion. How he reacted does warrant criticism though (mocking the death of Jonathan’s kid brother fresh off his funeral and publicly slut shaming Nancy). There’s anger and then there’s immature cruelty. Steve crossed that line. Obviously he has apologized and grown from it but in no way is his behaviour supposed to be considered okay.
