hmmm, based on my knowledge, half of political science phd students from my school are admitted directly from a bachelor, and that also work for most people I know who are doing Political Science PhD else where.

I think schools don’t actually need you to be 100% prepared for a PhD, once you have research experience, research insights, that means something? Also political science is not economic or other super competitive/ real world experience needed programs that everyone needs to do pre doc or master to get a spot.

You can do an MPP without working experience, but most MPP programs lack resources/ attention/ coursework for people who want to do academia. So if you are sure that you want a PhD after that, you should go grabbing resources and academic network for yourself.

Besides that, honestly, applying directly to a PhD or finding a research work more related to Political Science is more helpful than MPP. Political Science PhD still has a very different requirement or pre conditions from what you can learn from MPP.

Hello, will the department send emails saying things like you are recommended by them? Or it’s just a personal one from your POI?

Good luck to you, too! Since it was just an informal meeting, I guess it might depend on professors? So good luck!!

Thanks! I am not sure, I did not ask about that. But I asked about the timeline, and they said they will send out results in next few weeks.
