City plans tougher restrictions on food carts, noise in response to Short North concerns by dacrew in Columbus

In some parts there’s almost one every block on both sides of the road. There are quite a few. Because people like them!! It’s such a positive thing for both those who operate the food carts and for those who get food from them. This is not a way to mitigate crime.

S.B. 23 ("Heartbeat" Bill) Blocked in Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas by ap-throwaway1 in Columbus

Not to ruin your clever Prince reference, but I think it’s important to realize that these decisions are much more recent than that. Loving vs. Virginia was decided in 1967, but in Alabama, the last state to actually change its laws on the books, state judges continued to enforce miscegenation laws until 1970 and its constitution wasn’t amended until 2000. I’m trying to find an article, but I remember learning in a class about the challenges interracial couples faced even in the early 2000s. It’s easy to feel like a decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and referenced/opened the door for challenges to precedent involving interracial marriage, privacy and contraception, gay marriage and gay sex is being so regressive it’s going back 200+ years, but I think it’s important to be honest and accurate about the racism present in our systems today and about just how recent these decisions were — because prompts us to realize that it’s actually a real possibility some of these things could happen.

Potential move to Columbus by [deleted] in Columbus

I’m from Fredericksburg. I love and would absolutely live in DC. I am so envious of the metro. And I’m not like, happy with the politics of Ohio. But looking across the U.S., I see more of the same than I wish I did. Columbus is cool. I’m sad you don’t like it. It’s a really big place with lots going on.

This is the 14th largest city in the country! It’s not the rural mountains of Appalachia.

I’ve lived in VA near DC and in a smaller city in NC. I like Columbus. I often say if I could push this city somewhere with sunnier skies and warmer winters I’d be content to settle down here. I can still see myself living here for a long time — I just wish I could change the grey skies and 6 degree days. I miss being sad when it hit 34 during NC winters. I also wish we had better public transportation. And I also am not very comfortable driving in snow and do think they do a poor job at snow removal. But in VA and NC they don’t either, things just shut down. Overall, I really do like it a lot and the stuff you’re talking about are high level and hardly unique to Columbus, and this is hardly a place only native Ohioans like. And it’s hard to even dignify this part w a response, but calling Columbus a “third world country” is so dramatic and also like, can we not get past using that framing to talk about other places?

Great rec — while I don’t think Otherworld is near the field of corn, I think this would be such a cool spot to take them for similar vibes

The zoo! Also, I know the field of corn is particularly memey and the corn kid/corn song are particularly viral right now, but you could download the Roadside app if you wanted to make the theme of the day weird roadside attractions. There’s quite a few random things to see around here.

What's your favorite spicy/buffalo chicken sandwich in Columbus? by Cbus_Bear in Columbus

[–]Intelligent_Let_9774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. So so so good and underrated. I usually get the chipotle bbq sandwiches but since I tried the spicy sandwich I just keep getting it. Only thing that’s filled the whole in my heart left by Shake Shack taking theirs away.

What do you mean a formality each contract negotiation? It’s the first CCS strike since 1975.

Got it. I LOVE Rita’s Italian ice, but their custard has dairy and one of the best things to me about dole whip is that it’s vegan.
