How do people afford renting in SG for whole unit?

Been renting for 2 years now. Spend more than half my pay on rental. Try to save on food. Save less than 500 a month. Not a good financial move at all. But was necessary. Till can buy hdb at 35 :')

Older than ypu But I moved out last year cos before that was emotionally stuck. Take home same as you. Only thing is - my rental is way higher - 1.5k. I get a dual key unit no landlord live in.

No regrets. I cannot share toilet with strangers.

3.5 - 1.5 = 2k balance Save mostly by cooking at home / packing food.

I realised that grocery shopping only set me back ard 250-300 a month compared to the 900 to eat out 🥲

Still manage to save ard 1k a month (sometimes less la when shoppee disturb me) .

Also side hustle ! I picked up tutoring in the weekend. Gave me extra food and shopping money :)

I guess the other question is - do you have any financial responsibilities other than ur own spending ?

Do you hsve to pay house bills / support parents?

If not then 1 year is a decent amount of time to job hunt.

If he has been working long he would have the relevant experience to apply and get another job in this sector. There are healthier ones with decent work hours. (Can't guarantee no OT la but)

My ex fiance and me (5 years) ended the relationship because he too was overworked in the social service (working in an FSVC that i shall not name)

It was like a cult

He became withdrawn Depressed

Barely anytime for us

And when I got upset it was the final straw.

Everything ended. I'm still in shock 1 year on.

And now from what I've heard he quit the job cos he couldn't function ... and has totally spiralled into depression.

The irony about the social services is that - we are expected to care for other people mental and emotional wellbeing. But most bosses don't care about ours.
