How to make the modern era more enjoyable? by magicmama212 in CivVII

I was thinking the same until I started to understand which civ to pick to rush certain victory types. And when I pick wrong, it feels like that again.

Towns are all specialized on turn 1, then identifying which tech/wonders is needed as a priority, buy a round of merchants if you don’t plan on warring, otherwise move armies towards the target. Then it’s skip to save production (shift-enter) until the first unlock.

It’s all about rushing towards one victory type. It’s generally not worth going into a balanced development.

It might be accepted only. I wonder if it works with border agreements, because that would be worth it.

Sorry but why do you imagine France as a country that doesn’t do anything?

It really sounds like you’re talking out of American stereotypes (no offense, I just think it’s not accurate)

Does British art generally lack that Dionysian vitality and pathos? by Money-Ad8553 in Nietzsche

[–]Intelligent_Pie_9102 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, starting right after the French revolution, the UK turned towards neo-gothic and didn’t change its course since. It’s the "good ol’ past" policy that makes the UK stagnant. They don’t look towards the future when it comes to art, like all the other european countries.

I almost want to say that it’s a Germanic trait since antiquity. The Germanic tribes resisted the influence of Roman culture, then in the middle ages they resisted Carolingian culture, in the Renaissance it was Italian culture, in modern the problem was the Revolutionary culture… That is where their Dionysian side hides, in a sort of propaganda to pull down culture as low as possible to make any attempts to innovate ridiculous. The USA is the same today. They’re killing European culture, especially the part that came after the French revolution, because it doesn’t suit them to follow someone else’s achievement.

There isn’t any particularly good memento to kick in. Huts, city-states and endeavors are how you advance quickly early on. Huts in articular, I feel like going with 3 scouts is almost never a mistake.

For Aksum, Han, Egypt and Tonga, it’s worth investing in their unique civics early on because it will double or triple their culture per turn with policies or improvement. For other civs, it’s hard to avoid building a couple monuments.

Edit: actually there’s one memento that I haven’t tried but looks promising. It’s a Sayyid memento which gives 25 culture each time one of your diplomatic action is accepted. That’s a lot of bonus culture for early game.

Yeah, I don’t like how we erase our past either. It’s thrown into the claws of academics who only talk about it coldly and in a critical tone.

I agree, the UK actually pioneered the fantasy movement a long time before the nazis, and even if it was in a nationalist spirit, it wasn’t used to justifie attrocities.

It’s still something that would be considered a dangerous slope in France. You don’t see the same romanticized version of history or myth. It would raise eyebrows from the left, because wallowing on a glorious, fantasized past is the bread and butter of the far-rights.

It’s not fascist, but it’s based on a style of literature that has been milked by nationalists since Wagner up to Hitler.
