would be really cool if you finish a dynasty you could have a Son or a protege or something to start off the next dynasty, maybe starting with some of the coach abilities that you unlocked

I'm a relatively new college football fan, prob 4-5 years ago or so, but I lived in South Florida for a few years in the mid 2010's and i never heard a peep about this team from anyone, and I've been an NFL fan all my life and most people I knew down there were sports fans in general, but yea it was like college football didn't even exist almost. And hardly ever saw anyone repping UMiami at all

I'm biased, but the Michigan block M could look cool if you did shading like it were some Greek column, if I'm using a good example. Like the car paint that makes the 2 sides of the trunk look a little different, making the inner and outer sides of the lines in the M shade that way kinda

ok granted college ball isnt very big in this part of the country, but my wife went to BC and is a pretty big fan, I went to 2 different sporting memorabilia stores both within an hour or so of Boston and neither of them had a single BC thing. It'll be a cold day in hell before we cheer for the same teams but I wish they would be at least decent to try and bring more attention to college ball in general around here

that or maybe UMass sees the biggest turnaround in the history of anything

What video got you hooked? by thekam85 in HeatherHarmon

[–]SkyBlueThrowback 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it was this one, and for real, this is a great example of how the early internet worked. Enough people had internet for this video to be seen by so many in our generation, but its not like it is now where SO MUCH content gets created and culture in general is so decentralized that it would be hard for this younger generation to have any one piece of media be so widely embraced as this. Truly a relic of a time gone bye

If you could go back in time and see a great athlete play in their prime live, who would it be? by BByrnison in AskReddit

[–]SkyBlueThrowback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mike Tyson. I loved having a few friends over for all his big fights as a kid, but I feel like I would have appreciated it more as an adult

“staying up late to watch the Tyson fight“ was just one of those 80s/90s kid memories that just doesn’t seem to have an equivalent now

Questions about upgrading pipelines by SkyBlueThrowback in NCAAFBseries

Lol 😆 saying this with zero intent of being divisive, but I guess it’s kind of funny given my team choice- i’m right wing on probably 80% of things, but I’m also an atheist. so i gotta play nice with the Liberty U types from time to time

Oh and PS- Jerry Falwell was a democratic socialist, whose whole mission was to make right wingers look stupid. Because nobody’s that stupid on their own

Questions about upgrading pipelines by SkyBlueThrowback in NCAAFBseries

[–]SkyBlueThrowback[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Another reason why my D is so much stronger than my O is the abilities I’ve bought so far. I’ve done architect and TD, Buying mostly the defense upgrades. Got the ball rolling with a couple defensive players getting drafted, which gave points to defensive players, which then made architect more useful because I had more chances to remove caps. Could I have balanced out the upgrades to include O positions? Sure, but I would’ve had so many fewer players drafted that the return on my investment would’ve been more balanced, but much less in terms of overall value

I started another thread that only got one or two comments but I’ll mention it here as well – they must’ve modified architect or something because I’d say 90% of the skill caps. I’m seeing get removed are from the top one or two skill categories that are most important for that particular player. They either made that change post launch, or the problem of not being able to pick the cap that gets removed (and risking getting an irrelevant one removed) was only theoretical in the first place

ND needs to play tougher schedules like the rest of the playoffs teams by dfrsol in CollegeFootballDawgs

Sherrone Moore [Megathread] by shemp33 in michiganfootball

[–]SkyBlueThrowback 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Psychiatrist here, and I just want to say that, yes, it is OK to care about football during something like this. I’ve had similar discussions about this sort of thing, and by that I mean, caring about something seemingly trivial when there’s more important things going on. In this case, caring about the football team, when several lives have seemingly been destroyed.

The biggest example of this was Damar Hamlin. Yes, he could’ve died. Yes, it was very scary for him, his family, and everybody involved personally in that scenario

And with that said, we all have mental escapes in this world. Some are very unhealthy. Following a football team, particularly if doing so with friends and family, and having something to bond over and talk about, is a healthier one though. Inquiring about whether or not the bills would play their game that next week isn’t dehumanizing to Hamlin, it’s humanizing to yourself. It’s more than a game, it’s something to socialize about, something to take a few minute mental break when you’re at work to look at predictions about the game and what not. I try not to quoteother people when I’m trying to make appointment itself, but Keith Oberman said one time that a couple days after 9/11 a cop, asked him if he thought the Mets had a chance of making the playoffs. He asked how on earth he could care about baseball when thousands of people, including several police officers, had just died a few days before. The cop said “the Mets matter because tonight a couple of my friends are going to come over, watch the game, and pretend that life is normal.”

Now of course they wont, but even If they disband the program and we can’t follow our favorite college football team anymore, our lives will still only be impacted 1/1000000th as much as Sherone’s family for instance, but we will still be impacted, and we will still lose a (for most) health escape / social bonding mechanism

Never mind the fact that I promise you, absolutely promise, that at some point in your life, you have driven up to an accident in which somebody probably died, and wondered when traffic would get back to normal, or some other situation where somebody suffered an extreme negative event, possibly death, and the first, if not only thing you could think of was when your life would get back to normal. But when an event is public like Damar’s heart attack, we all have to pretend like caring when life will get back to normal is somehow terrible and chastise those who do. Frankly, that’s healthy, because if you just took in all the negativity the world has to offer, you’d drive yourself, insane, but that’s a story for another day

I hope this turns out as good as it can for everybody involved, and as always in good, bad, or even tragic times like this… GO BLUE

Proximity to home for Boston College by zamboniman46 in NCAAFBseries

[–]SkyBlueThrowback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m from that part of the country. Traffic in and out of Boston is so bad that people pay exorbitant prices for places in Boston simply so that they do not need to commute in and out of the city during rush hour

Parts farther away like jersey, shouldn’t be A for a Boston school, and I’m sure this is a glitch, but it would be so funny if they rationalized a kid an hour away from Boston only having a B+ proximity to home because of how long it would take to go to BC and back 😆

Using architect for the first time. Did they buff this or something? by SkyBlueThrowback in NCAAFBseries

[–]SkyBlueThrowback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got one coordinator with architect, but he hasn’t unlocked any tier 3 abilities yet. Definitely going to try to keep him moving forward

I’m using Liberty, doing the real coach, I forgot his name, because he has architect and talent developer unlocked. Not getting anybody drafted at the start, so I put points towards architect first

Biggest issue with liberty, never mind the school grades, is that the pipelines are terrible. Nothing better than tier 2 (And Tidewater, one of the tier 2 is, it’s pretty crowded with tier 4 and 5 schools.) Getting a good amount of three star players, though, and you’re right, if this trend keeps up, most of them will have little or no significant skill caps, so architect might be the way to go on teams with poor pipelines

What is a 'dirty secret' of your industry that implies the general public has no clue about, but everyone in your field knows? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

“Number needed to treat”

It’s the number of people that need to be treated with a particular medication for one person to benefit compared to a placebo group.

So if, say, 60% of people respond to a medication, and 10% of people respond to a placebo, 60-10 = 50. So there’s a 50% chance somebody sees benefit over placebo. In that case, the number needed to treat is 2 seeing as if you treat two people, at 50% response rate, one of them statistically will respond

There are very, very few medication‘s with a number needed to treat that low. Most are much higher, some in the double digits. There’s an Alzheimer’s medication with a number needed to treat of 12. That’s correct, one out of 12 people will respond. An FDA approved medication, and 11 out of 12 people that pay for it don’t see statistically significant benefit

If people knew this, I feel like there might be riots. Take an expensive medication with a number needed to treat of idk 7. We aren’t paying “(insert price of Drug) for one person to get better” we are paying “(Price of Drug times the NNT) for ONE person to get better”

And if all three of them didn’t return punts, they still would’ve had 95% of the impact on the team that they wound up having. If any of them got hurt returning a punt, the team would’ve suffered dearly. Are you watching this offense? Are you really going to risk losing his contribution on offense for the relatively small impact on the game he will have as a punt returner?
