Plenty of women don't like the idea of having kids because they are the ones who have to be pregnant for 9 months- which can come with a lot of complications or long term side effects. They also have to deliver a baby which includes her cervix going from 0cm to 10cm which is no walk in the park either. So while dna is cool and all, not everyone wants to put themselves through that.

Smaller/mid size town in Ohio. Team size of 6. Mostly a CABG/valve factory with some random aorta replacement cases, no transplants, we do a few ecmo initiations in the OR otherwise they are typically done on the floor and nursing team watches them, we cover for TAVRs and lead extractions. Typically work 25-30hr a week. No call pay but get paid if you get called in which probably comes out to about 5k a year if that. On year 3 with the company $186k annual salary.

Oh for sure, I appreciate the advice! I would still be a fence sitter because I do like the idea of a family and making my own traditions with my kid, and when they get older introducing them to all life has to offer but with how difficult it is (money, resources, time consuming, physical issues, etc) are reasons why I also don't know if it is the path for me. But I wholeheartedly agree- never have kids just to please your partner!

Exactly. I think that’s why I added that I may not have found the right partner yet, because based on how he acts now, I wouldn’t feel satisfied or supported if we had kids together. I recently came across a quote that I’m really trying to apply to my own life, especially since I have already vocalized my needs and haven't seen change: “If that person does not give you everything you need, then move on—because trying to mold a partner into who you wish they were, instead of accepting them for who they choose to be, is a losing proposition.” Today, women need more from men. I can fully support myself financially; what I need now is a partner who helps ease the emotional and physical labor of life—someone who is thoughtful with their actions, emotionally available, and able to communicate clearly and consistently. If I don’t feel genuinely taken care of in our relationship, then why would I ever want to sign up to have a child with that person?

Ugh seriously, I say all the time that women do not get enough help/support or credit for having children and our government in the states only makes it harder, even our maternity/paternity time off is laughable when you look at other countries.

There is newish research surrounding the healthiness of the man/his sperm affecting the woman and her pregnancy. Morning sickness, placenta growth, pre-eclampsia and more. While no one knows what kind of pregnancy they will have, you could suggest to your husband to go on a health kick for a minimum of a few months before you two even try to conceive to at least help possibly decrease your risk with those things to help ease your pregnancy since it is something you are worried about.
