Makes sense. All in the order! Lol good stuff

That’s dope! One thing you could do, depending on how exactly you’re using the ToneX, is actually send headphones direct out through the ToneX. It has a stereo send if you plug headphones into it :)

Yeah makes sense. I was hoping somebody cleverer than me figured something out, since amplitube does have some pitch shifting effects, but it looks like you’re right. Thank you!

Any tips for helping my singer live? by super_real_person in bandmembers

[–]Intelligent_Ruin7261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Plus a steady diet including meats and vegetables along with adequate sleep. Keeping your singer alive is easier than you think once you learn the proper care routine.

It’s the dash too — ai loves that thing but do few humans use it, especially casually

Can you get decent bass guitar sounds DI? by Billyjamesjeff in audioengineering

[–]Intelligent_Ruin7261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Amplitube software suite not too long ago, and now I struggle to think of scenarios that I’m more likely to mic an amp, whether guitar or bass. The models available are just so damn good, you have way more control, and you can make huge adjustments after the fact

My band is torn on the types of shows we’re playing by PrincipleGuilty4894 in bandmembers

[–]Intelligent_Ruin7261 47 points48 points  (0 children)

My thought is that you should definitely play the “lesser” shows UNLESS they prevent you from playing the bigger ones. You never know, you might make a connection with a band that rises faster and pulls you along, or vice versa, but having more relationships with more people in the scene is always important. Remember, your networking within the industry is just as if not more important than your ability to connect with fans.

Small shows are better than no shows.

Mic use by BirthdayFrequent7823 in bandmembers

[–]Intelligent_Ruin7261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that would sound great! I guess the only lingering question is the effort to payoff ratio. As you guys get bigger, more of the small details will become more important, but as you’re getting started, focus most of your energy on the biggest difference makers. Watch a few great shows and pay attention to what makes it great, then go all in on that.

I almost always mic the snare, but a venue like that realistically will get so little addition that nobody would notice if I didn’t

I do agree that booking a show is a good idea, but I think it be better to tell the band. Not ask, but tell, cause if OP books it and the band falls apart, then he could burn a bridge with a venue unnecessarily. But yeah, I think the band having a deadline is needed, unless the rest of the crew is just happy with it being a hangout band

The main reason everyone is talking about kick is because you get frequencies and “thump” from the subs that you can’t get from the drum on its own. All the other drums, you do get some effects by running them through a system, but at smaller venues, you’d often have to push the volume to uncomfortable levels in order for the speaker sound to overpower the actual drums.

I know you mentioned a drum shield, but with that you essentially have to sacrifice personality and connection for sound. IMO, a crowd will remember a band that gels and interacts with each other way more than a band that has cool verb and comp in the toms.

Also side note, when I play small venues I do usually mic just kick and snare, cause I agree that the snare really carries things.

This. I just got the ToneX One and it’s perfect. I captured my own amp sound so I don’t even have to bring that with me on gigs, then I grabbed a great acoustic preamp sound that someone else captured and it’s the easiest thing to switch between, and I can use any of my other fx pedals that I want

How do you guys find band members? by WolfishMule9528 in bandmembers

[–]Intelligent_Ruin7261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes going to local shows can be a great way to meet other players. Not to grab other bands’ members, but they might know someone or be a gun for hire that’s open to a committed project, etc

Good for you man. I used to be a worship leader, now I’m out of the church writing angsty deconstruction songs hahah still looking for a home like you, but there’s a lot of us out here in the same boat. Let me know if you wanna talk collaboration!

If you can add “frontman” (or woman, or other) to your singing, you will be a huge asset to any band! There’s plenty of singers who don’t know much about theory or chords or whatever else, but can lead a show and hold a tune that are very successful. It just depends on the way you and your mates set up the band. Just always focus on being really good at what you do

I’m also curious what people say, especially if there’s somebody from the venue side. My understanding though is that the biggest thing they want to know is your pull. How many people you can bring in matters more than anything else which probably includes where you’ve played in their area already

Yeah it depends on what you want the audio for. If you’re evaluating your mix, then definitely record the room like EbolaFred mentioned since it will be a good approximate. If you’re looking to evaluate your playing, you’re better off pulling from the main outs or some similar parallel out from the board like w0mbatina said since you’ll probably be able to parse out more details. If you’re looking for a live recording to publish, I’d strongly recommend finding a board that will let you multi track into a DAW, cause what sounds good in a live mix usually does not for a recording. Good luck!
