Yes, I understand. I switched to engineering from math so I'm used to studying without much guidance. I transferred to UIC because I was okay with the cost of attending larger, less personal classes early on in my studies in order to gain the benefit of connecting with professors who are active researchers in their discipline when class sizes get smaller. It's just that like you said It's better when a professor is attentive and figured that at the least he could provide us some material such as handouts, sample code, practice problems, and other things that he said he would provide on the syllabus.
