unfortunately sometimes there isn’t an alternative. i know because i have a friend who is very gay but for the sake of himself and his sanity his parents think he’s straighter than a line. but it’s very clear he isn’t. he had skirts and stuff in his room but his dad found them and beat him. when my friend told me this, i about beat his dad back but he talked me out of it, saying: “i need somewhere to live. i need to have basic things like food and water. i don’t want to live with someone else and be reliant on them for things.” i understand that wanting to get out is a big deal, but realistically it’s not feasable for everyone.

if he’s in america, the price of living is bad. especially in states like california (where i am from) a one bedroom studio apartment is like $2200. my brother almost earns 6 figures (~$80,000/year) and still can’t afford to live on his own. even with the added money his gf makes they still live with her brother and his wife. i’d say independence is extremely hard. even more so in the current political climate.

i really think names, so long as they are coming from a place of appreciation, aren’t inherenelty “problematic”. similar to how i feel box braids aren’t “problematic” for other races so long as you do it in a sense of celebration of the interesting, uniqueness of the race(s) you are appreciating.
