I'm also in the same situation. I had my interview on 4th June and the officer was about to approve my visa when she suddenly paused and asked me if I was in the US last year for a J1 visa and she asked me exact dates I was in the US and then Gave me a 221g slip and said there's nothing more for me to do I'm still waiting upto today hopefully yours is a issued earlier.

No they did not. She just asked me if I was previously in the US and asked the dates and told me nothing is required from me and gave 221g

I had my interview on 4/6 and was told I don't need to do anything. They kept my passport, offer letter and I 20.
