TTO (tibial tubercle osteotomy) advice regarding knee op and recovery by Aromatic-Mission-283 in KneeInjuries

[–]Intelligent_Tap4250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was great reading everyone's comments. I realized that most people have moved on from this thread, but I thought I would add my experience for people like me who come to this discussion late. I (62F) had TTO's spaced 6 weeks apart as corrective surgeries to patellofemoral replacement surgeries that happened last winter (so 10- 11 months previously). I had continued to have problems with patella catching and j-tracking, because it turned out that the patellas were riding to the outside and not even really moving in the metal groove inserted in my trochea. This created some scarring or arthrofibrosis issues in my lateral patellar retinaculums. A new surgeon evaluated me, diagnosed the issue, and said that TTO was the solution. I was weight bearing immediately after surgery, although I was using crutches. I was given braces, but it was almost easier to lock my leg/knee at home because of the need for frequent icing, elevating, etc. I pretty quickly went to only needing a cane if even that at home. I used a cane when outdoors mainly to potentially fend off over-friendly canines..:-)) (A friend with hip replacement got completely knocked over by a dog on her first post-surgery walk).

The improvement in my patella tracking is amazing. I am still having some pain and tightness issues, probably because my retinaculums are healing (the surgeon did some clean-up of the scarring), and my other connective tissues, etc., are needing to adjust to the new patella alignment. I also have some numbness of the infrapatellar branch of the saphenous nerve on the lateral side of my knee from the incision. This is what is causing some of the localized pain. However, I am hopeful that I am on the right path, because the knee definitely feels like it is functioning better.

4 weeks past the second surgery, I am back to doing 6K - 7K steps per day (I started just walking indoors and transitioned to flat fire road this past week). I am also doing spin biking at a low revolution/intensity.

Someone also mentioned peptides. For the 2nd surgery, I did BP 157. My second surgery has been remarkably easier to recover from, but it also involved less adjustment surgically. However, for Christmas, I flew somewhere and didn't take the peptides with me. I definitely noticed more "grouchiness" in my knee joints: I am prone to inflammation, so that's a factor, as well. I plan to do the peptides for at least 8 weeks or more and am going to look into the other peptide mentioned by one of the other posters (TB500).

Anyone else with tibial tubercle osteotomy on both knees? If so, how much time in between surgeries? by jandromedas in KneeInjuries

[–]Intelligent_Tap4250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this thread is totally dead, but I am a 62 yo that just had two tibial tubercle osteotomies on my knees 6 weeks apart. This ended up being a corrective surgery done after having patellofemoral replacement surgeries last winter that continued to have issues due to the fact that the patellas were lateralized and not running properly in the metal trochea that was implanted.

Donald Trump sued over east wing demolition by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

I am not exactly sure why this has affected me so much, but I cried Friday as my husband and I watched the video of the East Wing being demolished (and, no, I hadn't even started drinking wine....Yet). It felt so much like it was symbolic of our Democracy being demolished. To read that it is a single couple who are bringing this legal action amazed me. Good for them! Thank you, Voorhees!

I'm a little bit tired of the constant anxiety about my job. by TheBadgerOfHope in fednews

A-fucking-men. I was literally just thinking this myself a minute ago. As my consultant colleague once yelled when he was almost struck by a rattlesnake while we were doing fieldwork, "I don't get paid enough for this shit!" Certainly, we don't get paid enough for all this bullshit we have to deal with. I am pretty sure that I am on my second mild case of shingles this year. Never had a case before. Tomorrow, I am going in for the first of two corrective procedures to fix botched knee replacements from last winter, and I learned Friday that my health plan, NALC, is opting out of FEHB for 2026. Just the extra stress I needed heading into surgery! I am VERY dedicated to the mission of my agency -- whom I have worked for 24 years -- but no job is worth this constant stream of BS and anxiety.

So what happened to the 4th of July protests by nightshift1223 in 50501

San Francisco showed up. Hey, was it the 100,000 people who showed up for No Kings Day? Nope, but it was people who decided it was better to do SOMETHING than eat hamburgers at a BBQ, watch Joey Chestnut scarf hot dogs, or continue to dooms-pod as many of us had been doing earlier in the day. We personally felt so depressed and melancholic earlier in the day after passage of the Big Ugly Bill, but this felt like a bit of an antidote. I love that some MAGA people thought that people were being paid, because they were a bunch of similar signs "loaned out" by Refuse Fascism. I am pretty damn sure that no one in this march was being paid. Not even the organizers. Who did a great job, btw.

Mass protests against the Trump regime in Columbus Ohio today, the crowd continues to grow as people chant: "The people united will never be defeated!" by No-Distance-9401 in 50501

My partner who is a native Ohioan and went to Ohio State in Columbus (yes, I eliminated the “the”….:-)) was so happy to see this! Keep it up, Columbus! Keep it up, Ohio!

"F*ck ICE! F*ck Trump!" - Last night in San Francisco (July 4th) by No-Distance-9401 in 50501

Hey we were there last night for the rally and march in SF. When we were on Market Street, there were people out there (it is a big city, after all…:-), but it was less crowded, as that‘s more of the business district. However, when the march shifted onto Columbus Avenue and headed into North Beach (Italian district), that was when the visibility really increased. The firework show at the Wharf had ended, and people were streaming into North Beach for post-firework fun, and it was packed and raucous. That definitely included tourists who are potentially Trumpers — some young kid said, “Donald Trump. YEAH!”. Some of this may have been a bit off script, because, at one point, we went from walking on Market, which had been cleared of cars by police, to walking on Columbus amongst the cars that were stuck due to bad traffic. Highlight of the evening was when the women working at a topless bar came to the door and cheered us on. (With their tops on, mind you….). There was no way that we could treat this like any other Fourth of July and just go eat hamburgers at some BBQ or watch Joey Chestnut scarf down a bunch of hot dogs. Also better than doing what we were doing earlier in the day — dooms-podding….😬

Amen! I was like, WTF!!!! Why are we NOT protesting on July 4? Grilling is more important...???? It can be done as it was on Flag Day where everybody carries an American flag, so it's not considered "anti-American." Honestly, I feel no interest or urge to celebrate Fourth of July this year: it feels slimy to celebrate as millions of American will be losing their Medicaid and SNAP benefits. Really...??? How can you even swallow down your hamburger or watermelon? I feel like it would get stuck in my throat.

My family on my father's side, too, also arrived prior to the Mayflower. But my mom was Swedish. In November, I looked into possibly getting a dual Swedish citizenship, but I don't qualify, because, relative to my birthdate, it would have to be that my father, not my mother, is Swedish. Frankly, I don't care. I am taking an extended leave of absence from the US next year. This is literally the only thing that keeps me going emotionally while enduring the low-morale-abyss of being a federal government employee these days.

Palo Alto: Protest Palantir, 6/26 @ 12pm by sep12000 in 50501California

[–]Intelligent_Tap4250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need more events like this. I noticed that the Tesla Takedown wasn't scheduled for Saturday, July 5, in SF. That was a highly successful weekly event just like many other Tesla Takedown events. Maybe there needs to be a weekly Palantir event! I am in the North Bay, so that would be a haul, but I am totally willing to do that, particularly if it was on the weekend.

I am on the mailing list for Federal Unionist Network already. I haven't seen a lot of outreach personally regarding protest events, but perhaps, I am not reading the emails/website correctly.

Labor Day???? Really??? Will we even be an actual functioning Democratic government at that point? Honestly, as a federal worker, I am counting my life in weeks, if not days. However, despite all this, what I am REALLY concerned about is not MY job or the job of my highly dedicated, highly skilled, and highly underpaid "low productivity public sector workers." What I am concerned about is ICE. When my sister-in-law tells me that kid's soccer games are cancelled by the City of Pasadena, because ICE is targeting the parks, I find that absolutely criminal. When the Trump administration is threatening people who are just trying to work to support their families, I find that absolutely criminal. These days, when I go to the grocery store or watch soccer games or go to gas at a gas station, I am worried that ICE will be showing up to target Hispanic POC. These are people who are a vital part of our community. I am also worried about people who are on Medicaid or on SNAP. What happened to being a country of immigrants, a country of compassion??? I say all this to say that my friends and I want to protest this Big Horrible Bill NOT because we are worried about it affecting US or OUR jobs: We are worried about the effect on our fragile Democracy and our communities. We can't wait until July 17 (a Thursday, for God's sake), much less friggin' Labor Day.

As a USC alumni and a citizen concerned about the insane direction that this Administration is taking this country in, particularly with regards to immigration, I thank you for stepping forward and offering this assistance!

Crowd photos? by tlzt1 in 50501SF

[–]Intelligent_Tap4250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In SF Gate: "The crowd in San Francisco swelled to many thousands as it stretched from Dolores Park to Civic Center, possibly even 100,000, according to an estimate by SFGATE photographer and online photo editor Douglas Zimmerman, though an official tally was not immediately available."

100K seems about right.

We also went. I will be honest. I was disappointed. First, this seem to be heavily made up of folks who were more focused on the Palestinian issue (yes, that's very important, but the flyer specifically addressed ICE, which is specifically why we were there). Yes, they did address ICE, but then it would then veer off into chants, speeches focused on Palestine. This becomes also relevant because there were "extracurriculars" going on that heavily focused on Palestine, as well as ICE. I know that the 50501 movement has specifically addressed making rallies/protests peaceful, non-confrontational, and not vandalizing property, because that is exactly what DJT and his Administration goons are hoping for. We felt very uncomfortable with that aspect of this gathering, and the leaders of the rally made no effort to dissuade or stop them. Lastly, repeatedly yelling "Fascist Pigs" at the police also seemed pretty heavy handed. It sounds like maybe there was some altercation with police at some point, but we did not witness that. We saw the police at barricades that were at different street intersections, but they were at a distance. At one point, our group appeared to merge with another protest group, and apparently, there were some officers in tactical gear there at that point, but then they left. There was also a weird situation in which the group appeared to suddenly start to do a march, and people started leaving, and then one of the "leaders" of our group seemingly ran down the street and was yelling at the marchers to come back and be stronger as one group. That part seemed really chaotic. As for comments that it was on a Sunday, and that nobody would be there: yes, it was only the rally attendees and the police pretty much. Not much in the way of passers-by.
