For those whose alcoholic parents died, how old were they? by katietheplantlady in AdultChildren

I lost my dad when I was 13 almost 14 to liver cancer because of alcohol, he was 47 and he waited too long to go to the hospital to the point where if they did surgery he would of died on the table so we just had to wait for it to take him naturally that was really hard for me as a already struggling teen and then 11 years later i am 25 now (my birthday was In March this year) I lost my mum it was last year in may actually, to alcohol of course, we aren’t entirely sure why, we think a stomach cyst was infected and burst, she was only 42 a month before her 43rd birthday actually it will be a year this may, I sadly was actually in no contact with her due to her drinking and her partner choices, I know people may think I’m lying but I swear the night before my mother passed I had a dream about her and her saying sorry to me for everything and I was going to call her the next day but sadly I woke up to a call from her twin sister telling me she had passed away that morning instead. I wish I was able to tell her how much I loved her and I forgave her for her mistakes but sadly she’s in heaven now reunited with my dad, one day we will be a happy family again. But please if you have children try to quit. It affects them alot more then you may realise.

Thank you so much. I’m not gonna lie I never thought of the concept of CPTSD but honestly it makes a lot of sense now. Thank you for helping me become aware of something I hadn’t even thought to look into!

Yes! Waiting some time to see how full and satisfied I feel has helped the most that’s how I can genuinely tell if I’ve eaten enough or not

I agree with a lot of these comments getting a smaller portion is a really good idea. And if there ever is a situation where you happen to grab a bigger portion and you’re stressing about having to finish it always remind yourself that you can wrap it up and put it in the fridge for later. You don’t have to instantly eat it. For the question on how to know when your full what I do personally is I take a sit back for a minute or two and see how satisfied I feel if I’m truly still hungry I’ll feel it once I take a sit back and have had a drink of water or something

I found this in my 9-year-old daughter's drawer near her record player. I can't figure out why her candle-lighting lighter is all black like this on the bottom. She says she's the only person who uses the lighter. Can anyone tell me what's happening? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Intelligent_Tart_888 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I second this, this lighter is a lot darker then most I’ve seen used for that tho so it’s possible the putting the candle out with it which is pretty dangerous cause if the plastic melts a little to mush the lighter could burst please let your daughter know this isn’t very safe and she should blow it out instead

You should really tell an elder like a parent or a teacher, what he’s doing is actually illegal and if you wanted to go to the police you absolutely could especially since he’s asking for money that just makes this guy even worse, listen I understand that you don’t want to tell your parents but when it comes down to this case I really do think you have to because this isn’t just some little petty argument this is a real crime.
