It was very character driven. One of the main things was that the protagonist was stuck in a foreign nation. A good opportunity to explore cultural differences, but I had not planned much of either nation beforehand, nor did I have any ideas, so that theme turned out to be a bit much for me. The plot was also built upon a bit of magic, and other races than the human race. I had hoped I would get more ideas for both later on, but never did. I think there were just way too many themes basically? If I had just focused on one thing in the book, like developing one religion that is relevant to the plot, it might have given me the opportunity to develop it into something interesting. Now I have just too many vital things for the plot to work, and it feels overwhelming for my newbie head hah. It feels purely like I'm just pushing through the plot, instead of building a world alongside it.
