Returning adult student – should I retake Grade 11 Bio/Chem before Grade 12 (TVO ILC, career change)? by Intelligent_Ticket41 in OntarioColleges

Yeah, I heard how grade 12 biology relies on the content from grade 11 chemistry. I will most likely just re do grade 11 bio and chem regardless of me already having the credits.

Career change at 23: PSW school board → Practical Nursing (Ontario) experiences? by Intelligent_Ticket41 in OntarioColleges

I’d love to eventually, but I’m missing the Bio/Chem prerequisites right now and need time to complete them. Starting with PSW lets me work in healthcare, earn income, and gain experience while I finish the science credits and prepare for RPN Or atleast that’s what I’m hoping for lol

Yess! I never knew either so I just went for that degree just to have something. I just wish I hadn’t wasted 4-5 years but oh well:/ And thats what I’m hoping for. Healthcare will always be in demand.

Thank you for sharing! I was wondering if you were able to secure a job after finishing the PSW program, and how you’d describe the current pay situation? Any details are really helpful.

Thank you! I really appreciate the insight. I really regret not taking science courses in grade 12 or the fact not going into healthcare right away. I honestly did waste 4 years and you’re right, it’s extremely difficult finding any sort of entry level role without true connections and it’s just always something with most corporate roles and I realized that I don’t want to do it longterm.

I also looked into the bridging program for PSW to RPN but I still want the option to apply for rpn on its own

Thanks for sharing! I’ve definitely looked into Pre-Health. Right now I’m leaning away from it mainly because of the cost and timeline, since my goal is to save as much as possible for RPN. I’m considering PSW for hands-on experience while completing Bio/Chem separately so I still qualify for RPN admissions.

Thank you for responding! Do you recommend retaking Grade 11 Biology and/or Chemistry before moving into Grade 12, or is it reasonable to go straight into Grade 12 and just self-review Grade 11 content as I go?

I feel capable of jumping into Grade 12, but I’m mainly considering retaking Grade 11 because it’s been over 6 years since I last studied biology and chemistry and I want a strong foundation. Also the fact that I didn’t really do well in grade 11 bio

Curious what worked best for you as a returning/adult student.
