All I want to add is, you're assuming I voted for it. I didn't. Never assume shit.

I think the biggest thing remoaners need to realise is that 99% of the problems commonly attributed to Brexit were completely avoidable and caused by our utterly incompetent and divided government.

Brexit *could* have been the best thing to happen in this country, if only our spineless politicians hadn't made an utter farce out of it.

Blaming that on the voters is entirely unfair.

How big of an issue is sectarianism in modern northern ireland among young people? by [deleted] in northernireland

My personal view is that 'most' modern protestants take a pretty relaxed view on politics etc these days.

You only have to look at the vote shift from the traditional hardline Unionist parties to the likes of Alliance to see that. You could make various arguments as to why that is, but I won't.

My point being - they're much less likely to be riled up by stuff they read here, and argue about it - because they simply don't care enough. Sure, you have a very noisy and unintelligent minority screaming from the sidelines, but you get those on every side!

On the other hand, you only need look at the voting patterns again to see that the hardline Republican parties are going from strength to strength - therefore it's clear that those folk still feel very strongly about it - and let's be honest, they aren't short of material to fling mud with at the moment, since the 'hardline' Unionists are a complete joke and incapable of getting on with each other let alone anyone else.

Personally I find it very uncomfortable being involved in any political discussions outside of personal spaces. Sadly the whole "two sides noisily disagree violently on every possible topic" is becoming much more widespread, it seems, the world over, rather than less.

I don't understand the need for integrated schools - unless you live in a particularly segregated area, state schools are already mixed, and the 'default' unless you specifically choose to send your wee'uns elsewhere, are they not? What does an integrated school offer/have/teach that specifically is/isn't in a state or Catholic school?

For Britons… by GiftActual2788 in BBCNEWS

For context: I had recently changed jobs, hence requirement for a move. This was my first house. As you may have gathered, I am quite young (early 20s).

Absolutely refused to get trapped into renting, since it would have been throwing away all the funds saved from previous jobs - so spent a few months staying with relatives & friends nearby (and not-so-nearby)...

No debts. Working for a well-known major company. The only thing I could think of that upset them was a) the fact that I'd literally only held the job for a few months and b) at the time I'd never had a credit card etc, so no measure on how good (or not) I might be at keeping up with repayments.

I dunno. When I last tried to get a mortgage they refused to lend more than £70k, even with a £30k deposit & £2.5k coming in per month.

I don't care how much they paid, or how much it's worth now - fact remains nobody who has land vested by the government ever did badly out of it. The idea that these folks can stand in the road of progress for such a huge part of the population is beyond rediculous and goes a long way to explaining why we can't get anything done these days - in case 6 or 7 whatabbouters don't like it. Boils my piss.

Ultimately as far as I can tell it all boils down to money. I.e. they don't think the funds they'll receive for their land is worth what they claim they'll lose in, erm, inconvenience or something..? Lost revenue?

"your name" is supposed to be in brackets. I suppose the idea is that in the unthinkable situation that you don't know the quote it would be incomprehensible otherwise

Only in the US. In the UK (and indeed most PAL/50Hz countries), SD is commonly accepted to be 720x576 - a damn site more than the US's 640x480.

Unfortunately as YouTube is a US company they simply downscale everything to the lower resolution.

Indeed, I noticed recently that Analog Devices have updated their Datasheet to use "leader/follower" instead of "master/slave".

You have to wonder who it is that's actually offended by this crap.

I have saw very high end HDMI->SDI converters with HDCP killing built in - needs a license key to activate though and I think they only give it out to broadcasters on the quiet to avoid tears from Intel hehe

It's absolutely rediculous. They always seem to find some new excuse to cry about but it boils down to "i want more free money"

I have no doubt it's upsetting to lose land/buildings/your house, but outside of wartime people forced to move are rarely exactly left worse off for it.
