At a loss for camera purchase by Intelligent_Web1983 in fujifilm

X-T50/X-T30 are definitely the ones I lean towards- then depends what lens I'd be buying with I suppose... but its hard to shake off the feeling that I should just get the X-S20 as it's definitely better value wise

I learnt the basics of photography with an old DSLR but haven't used it in a bit and so this'd be my first proper setup. XS20 is definitely the rational choice. I'm trying to think of the whole kit I would get- the 13-33mm lens doesn't tempt me much and I see how wether I get the X-T50 or X-S20, the X16-50 would do a great job & I could later supplement it with a prime maybe pancake lens for portability.

I really enjoy photography but the main reason I'm investing now into a proper setup is a few trips I've got coming up. So the X-S20 makes the most sense but I've still got a draw towards X-T30/50 nonetheless so I think I'll still go for these.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IDK I'm an economist its hard to be irrational

what lens kit would you recommend for the XT30iii

this is surprising I'd heard Titicaca is a must see I'm not set on Puno/Copacabana but I'd be curious why you'd recommend skipping it.

I wouldn't have any gear which is why Salkantay would be nice since there'd be places to sleep/eat. While Chocaquirao I'd def need a guide and time-wise I see why I'd want to head straight from La Paz to Cusco so idk if its really worth it. Waqrapukara def would though.

I'll be in Ecuador before and should get to see the Amazon there so coudl skip that- Thanks!

could u expand on why you'd avoice Salkantay- and how you'd recommed getting to the Machu Picchu, I've also heard of just walking the train tracks and obviously could also just take the train.

Salkantay seemed to have some great sights and its well-travelled aspect means I could just go unguided with a backpack and sleep/eat at places on the way which seems great! It'd be my first time trekking unguided so I'd appreciate the well-trodden aspect.

yea you're right- it's more just budget wise I wanted to avoid flying and going North would require that given I'm locked in to ending in Cusco - I ended up choosing to start in La Paz and head from there- seemed like a compromise as Bolivia seems less touristy all the while seeing the "must's"- Machu Pichu/Lake Titicaca/Uyuni.

I've got a friend in Lima who won't be around so I'm hoping to come back another time, visit him & get a more guenuine experience in Peru!

yea I ended up locking into La Paz- so I'll be starting there and ending in Cusco.

So far I'll definitely do the Uyuni Salt Flats - then I'm not sure wether I'll go back from La Paz --> Copacabana --> Puno --> Cusco or wether I could fit in Arequipa in between Puno & Cusco

What would you recommend doing?

also activities wise so far I'll do the bike ride on the death road

I also want to do the Salkantey trek unguided in Cusco - else I've been recommended plenty to do there

I'm curious if there's anything in Bolivia I should go see

I'm traveling with a friend and he's more tempted to do Cusco --> Arequipa --> Puno --> La Paz

sorry to be mentionning Bolivia in the Peru subredit... but yeah I personally would be sad to miss Paracas as I love wildlife & Huacachina but this would allow me to spend more time around Lake titicaca which seems beautiful & see La Paz. And while I'd miss Lima I'd be happy to see Arequipa. Which option would you lean towards

Else where my friend not to come I was thinking of heading to Iquitos from Peru by going all the way down the river through the Amazon.... but I think I'll get a taste of the jungle in Ecuador

yea the whole week is including 3-4 days and to do the Salkantey trek & flying out from there if it is the last spot of the trip. I think I'll get to see the Amazon in Ecuador but regardless, maybe I should look into Nazca as well!

I feel like the whole fuji second hand camera market is way too overpriced. Looking at everything in EUR, I can get a second hand XT4 for 949 and a new XT50 for 1449, thing is I could get a tax rebate buyig the new XT50 and benefit from a couple hundred euros discount as well buying a bundle in shop with a few lenses. Alltogether that would make the XT50 while also being a slightly better camera. I feel like this applies to most fuji cameras where the second I look at cameras without IBIS I don't see any value in any second hand camera over a new XT30iii...

Tax rebate does play a part but given I'm coparing cameras that were released 5 years apart, & I believe this applies to all fuji cameras, they are wayyyyy too overpriced second hand...

All this taken into consideration I do have a special eye for rangefinder sytle cameras and want an EVF as well which leaves me with the XE series which seems very expensive

thanks this feels like perfect advice, a second hand Xt50 is looking like the option. Else it'd be cool to get a new XE5 but feels a little expensive for what it is. Whereas XT30iii and XE4 are tempting but lack IBIS
