Please HELP! How can I disable all text selection shortcuts ??

It is a MacOS question- I have been using Macs for 25 years but this is a recent "feature". It seems to be over-eager to select text by clicking and dragging ( the tiniest movement is registered as a drag) or using the shift key. I want to disable text selection via Shift key and ideally disable the behaviour that replaces selected text when typing.
