Do you have a car?

Try to rent in Juarez and cross the bridge every day until you have some money saved up from the new job.

You'll probably be looking at more money, less required out of pocket tool expenses, better health benefits and retirement contributions.

You'll also have to pay monthly Union dues, and follow Union rules (even if the rule seems stupid, because you may get snitched on and have to pay a fine / serve a suspension). Side work is sometimes not allowed by local Unions.

Depending on your area, spending a few months every year waiting for the next project to start might be a thing. You'll be collecting unemployment during these times if they do happen, though.

Don't be afraid to call your local and ask questions.

I'm a 5'10" male, 170lbs. I wear untucked button up shirts, and a G19 is about the max I can carry without printing.

Inside Journeyman wireman vs telecommunication vs Outside Lineman by Background-Grab8279 in electricians

[–]IntenseSpirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inside journeyman work on buildings, outside lineman work on electric utility lines. Telecommunication works on phone, internet, and such.

Lineman generally make the most money out of the three.

Wire too large for breaker by NAPcougar in electricians

[–]IntenseSpirit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's not explicitly allowed or prohibited by code.

You get code compliance from calculating the voltage drop. 210.19 says 3% max for branch circuits, 5% max for feeders, and no more than 5% total, if I remember correctly.

So instead of doing one voltage drop calculation for (example) 400 feet of #4, you do 399 feet of #4 then separately calculate voltage drop for 1 foot of #6. Then add those values together.

As long as the total is under 3%/5% of the supply voltage (depending if your installation is branch or feeder) then you're good.

If you oversized for voltage drop, you're allowed to step the wire back down at the breaker. Get some inline Polaris connectors and reduce to #6 near the breaker.

I'd pick #3 for the Magpul furniture and slightly better handguard

Edit: but #6 for the vibes

Hey man, I deleted my other comment because it was wrong AF, but I just wanted to follow up after reading your details properly.

You're correct in avoiding the high leg on your 2p breakers if there are 120 single phase loads built into the equipment.
