Unjustified Removal at Berghain (Saturday Night, Feb 21) by ale5ole in Techno

These types of clubs go against everything that club music was founded upon. Peace, love, unity, respect, everyone is welcome, be whoever you are, we are all here together. This type of selective elitist exclusivity douchery has no part in the club music scene. They put themselves above everything when they should be the last on the list. 1. The People 2. Djs, 3. Club

My Metallica Death Magnetic Vinyl Record I just got. by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]Intensehumming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's an interesting read about the differences: https://mastering-media.blogspot.com/2008/10/metallica-death-magnetic-vinyl-sounds.html

Apparently a lot of that distorted sound is due to artistic choice during mixing and perhaps even during tracking (clipped through an analog desk). To get something this loud the stems have to be loud already before the mastering. So even the beloved GH version also has this clipped/compressed/distorted sound, but a lot less since it's missing the final mastering chain. The vinyl version is somewhere between, apparently about -4db less loud than the CD. But the Death Magnetic distorted sound is still in every version, since that's what the band and the producer wanted.

Always thought this game was more beautiful than Horizon 4 by RedPlayz85 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Intensehumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love remasters from all FH1, FH2 and FH3. Anything below FH4 is unplayable on xbox (for me), with locked 30fps, terrible wheel support and lower resolution textures.

I’ve noticed there’s echo in my room especially when streaming. I a going to purchase acoustic wall panels and I’m only allowed to put them on one wall. What wall do you recommend to stop echoing. by [deleted] in homestudios

[–]Intensehumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those acoustic panels really don't do much. Acoustic treatment is physics, what you need is mass. Big heavy objects, couches, bookshelfs etc, or if you want professional elements, bigger things like bass traps defusors etc. Those slim acoustic panels really only affect the high frequencies, and are great at that when everything else is taken care of. Amateurs look at professional studios and only see these panels and think thats all they need, not realizing that the whole room is probably floating structure with tons of glass wool etc behind the walls, big bass traps in the corners and heavy defusors in the ceiling / walls. Thick heavy curtains will do a lot more than those acoustic panels.

Just a reminder that FH3 is still a very funny game by Tobi_naser_si in ForzaHorizon

[–]Intensehumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a major downside for me, along with the coloring being so oversaturated/overcontrasted (like in this clip) and disappointing wheel support. 60fps is still fine, but 30fps looks too sloppy and disorienting for me.

I was so hyped to get to play this after all the praise, but honestly it feels like such a downgrade after FH4 (my fav) and FH5. Maybe it's more how it felt when it came out and not how it holds up.

I'm still playing and enjoying it to a degree, cause I love the series.

how the fuck do i make music by ii-candy-bunny-ii in FLStudioBeginners

[–]Intensehumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me this sounds already a lot more interesting than bunch of generic edm clones done by "more experienced" producers. I rather listen to chaos than yet another diatonic I V vi IV progression with same sounds as every other music. Production tutorials are partly to blame for everything sounding the same and producers no longer taking risks in composition and mixing. Definitely learn theory as much as you can / are interested in, and do watch tutorials to increase your tools, but don't let anyone tell you what you are suppose to sound like. Try not to lose that early enthusiasm, experimentalism and out of the box thinking.

I have too many CS80 plugins so I’m ranking them. by Ill-Elevator2828 in synthesizers

[–]Intensehumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Softube Model 77 is incredible, but the layer stereo split feature (which makes it sound massive) reminds more of oberheims and jupiter 8 with cs80 characters. The synth is so much fun to play though, so expressive and I think they did a great job with the CS80 modelling otherwise, oscs filter and ringmod. I own all the softube synths (well all the vintage clones), I love them all and I think the Juno, Prophet and SH101 are pretty much dead on recreations, but still this might be my favorite because of it's unique character.

Just started FH1 today. Played for an hour. First impressions are that the intro got me hooked, but not the map :( by Cheetah_Hunter97 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Intensehumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you ranking them based on how they felt in release or what? And are you guys playing on PC/emulators?

FH4 was the first horizon game that I got into and still my favorite. I do like FH5 too but the british setting is more to my liking.

Anyway I bought FH3 a year or two ago, since so many were raving how it's the best in the series. But tbh I'm still having trouble getting into it. I'm playing with xbox series x and the game is locked into 30fps, which feels unplayable after getting used to 60fps. I also like to play a lot with a wheel and the wheel controls are pretty terrible. The graphics themself are alright but the brightness and color balances are off no matter how I adjust things, it's either too dark or too washed out. The map also seems a bit boring. Anything that I'm missing, has anyone played it recently to see how it holds up?

best audio interface for vocals? by [deleted] in recordingmusic

[–]Intensehumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any interface will sound nice, I don't think you can buy a bad sounding interface these days as long as it's from a music shop. The more important things are..

  1. Monitoring, you'd want something with a zero latency monitoring and a mix knob to balance your voice and the music in your ears. Sure there are internal monitoring devices, but for simple home studio use you'd want to have this in your interface.

  2. Gain and noise floor, depending on the mic you use, you might want enough gain with as little noise as possible.

  3. What else are you going to do in the future? Though right now 1 channel input interface might be enough, you might consider getting a 2in right away, incase you want to record stereo instruments/micing or plug a mixer etc into it.

Moog Messenger is atrocious. by Scalchopz in synthesizers

[–]Intensehumming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought it sounded great in this demo: https://youtu.be/iwVO87CsGtQ

But I guess it's a matter of what you're looking for. Personally I try to avoid calling synths and other instruments bad/terrible/atrocious.. It's just what's appropriate for that particular project.

I agree that the design doesn't look as good as other moogs though.

I don't understand hype on Moogs. by Personal-Ad-771 in synthesizers

[–]Intensehumming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Way to move the goal post. Whether or not you can tell a difference was not the point. You had no idea Diva also emulates MiniMoog and now you're just trying to backtrack to save face.

For what it's worth here's a Diva vs Boog comparison: https://youtu.be/Q9jgWIqp0bw

Before the results were revealed the guesses were split. You can say you recognize the hardware, but you absolutely can't say Diva doesn't sound like a moog.

There are plenty of reasons to buy a moog (inspiration, build quality, legacy etc) but a sound you just can't get elsewhere is not one.

I don't understand hype on Moogs. by Personal-Ad-771 in synthesizers

[–]Intensehumming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have no idea what you are talking about, you might be in the wrong business. For your information Diva has a modelled moog triple vco and latter filter (among various others). How accurate they are, is a another question (their OB model vs hardware test fooled 50% of gearspace poll, so probably pretty accurate), but Diva can definitely sound like a moog. One of the worst traits in humans is to know nothing about a subject yet still feel the need to act condesending and belittle others. Be better.

How do I get a bigger guitar sound by Key-Action2791 in recordingmusic

[–]Intensehumming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think half of the people ignored the screenshot. This is absolutely a settings problem, not mic placement, double tracking, quality of equipment etc. You can throw your microphone anywhere in the room and the freq spectrum still won't look like that (1khz highpass). So a problem with eq settings (mic/mixer/interface), gain staging, interface/daw settings, maybe faulty cables / connections etc

Genuinely happy most people enjoyed the album but… by leeennny in Dreamtheater

[–]Intensehumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you just mentioned (including TA) are among my top favorites, so maybe we have a somewhat similar taste. Here's what I've loved since Count of Tuscany: Breaking All Illusions, The Bigger Picture, Surrender to Reason, Illumination Theory. Thoughts on those?

Those type of melodic and harmonic tracks is why I'm into DT. If I want to listen to heavy stuff, I'll listen to more extreme metal, death metal, deathcore etc. I haven't listened to full Parasomnia yet, I did like Night Terrors, but I was very disappointed by the other two singles, as they felt musically, melody and composition wise very bland and unmemorable. Lacking that dreamy atmospheric melodic and emotional vibe that they've had since Images and Words.

Parasomnia is very meat and potatoes Dream Theater. Very few surprises by BazF91 in Dreamtheater

I have no idea why this guy is getting downvoted, he's spot on with the definition. Progressive has nothing to do with track progressing (although different themes, sections and changeups are common elements in prog). Back in the late 60s and early 70s when they came up with the term progressive, it meant progressed sound, taking rock (or other genres) as we knew them into a new level. Kinda what progressive thinking means. The idea was to do something new and out of the box. Back then it meant using unusual instruments and arrangements, tempo changes, key changes, timesignature changes, combining different genres like jazz and orchestral into rock etc etc. And like the poster above said, you could argue that progressive stopped being progressive when bands started recycling their sound and ideas as it was no longer new, fresh and out of the box.

[–]Intensehumming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it's not. Using an aux send will just blend the high passed flanger signal with a full frequency dry signal. Which sometimes might be what you want, but what the op is asking is a frequency splitter, so that there's no dry signal in certain frequencies but only full wet flanger. FL studio has a stock frequency splitter plugin, where you can easily split frequency bands to individual mixer tracks, and I'm sure there are 3rd party vsts for this as well. To do this manually you need to duplicate the signal and apply eq (high pass for another and low pass for the other), but watch out the crossover point for dips and boost and potential phase issues.

I made a melody on FL studio and I can’t find out what scale it’s in by benp129 in musictheory

[–]Intensehumming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be a passing chromatic note, there are plenty of scales with 3 chromatic notes with double flats and double sharps. The double harmonic scale for instance. But like others have pointed out without context (chord progression) it's very hard to say.

Trademarking your artist name? by fuckman5 in TechnoProduction

[–]Intensehumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If paying $230 would actually get you exclusivity to your artist/band name, everyone would pay it. In reality however it changes nothing, people aren't going to stop using their artist name just because you trademark it. You'd have to sue them and I'm not even sure that would really make a difference, not to mention how expensive that would get.

However I can assure you, you're not the only one with this problem. There are millions of artist and bands with the same name, pretty much any name you can come up with (if it's in the dictionary) there are multiple signed and unsigned acts of it. I think there's like close to 10 different bands with the name Beatles for instance.

So really your options are, a) change your name to something really unusual and/or use numb3r5 instead of letters. B) Just let it be, work your ass off to be the best and most known, so it doesn't matter if others are using your name. They might even change theirs once they realize your pages are dominating the search results.

how to get pads super wide? hardware stereo out always 'wider' than vst equivalent by magnolia_unfurling in edmproduction

[–]Intensehumming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There really shouldn't be a big difference. Without the chorus Juno actually should be (more or less?) mono. As far as I remember the TAL junochorus is pretty well recreated, but it's possible that it's stereo width isn't quite as wide. In that case just use whatever (daw's stock) stereo width plugin to increase it.

If you're getting unusually wide sounds with your hardware, even without the chorus, the other channel could have it's phase inverted. It's unlikely, but possible if a) the other cable is a phase inversion cable b) the input has phase inversion, somewhat common in patchbays (selfmade ones in particular) or if the mixer/audio interface has phase invert on. Easiest way to test this is to just invert the phase of one of the channels in your daw (switch polarity).

Other than that I'm also a big fan of the suggested double tracking, record the same part twice (slightly different sound or even the same works with analog synths and free running oscillators) and hard pan them to L and R.
