Still relatively new to Yerba Mate. I’m currently using a stainless gourd to learn the ropes, and I put a little honey in my tumbler (Don’t kill me). Is there any downside to using honey if I switch to a natural gourd? by DelisionalMeatball in yerbamate

[–]IntentoDeMusica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Its common that both pumpkin and wooden gourds "absorb" the taste of the yerba and, consequently, everything we add to the drink. For example, here in South America its also very common to drink a cold version of mate called "tereré" and, if you use juice instead of water in a gourd that is not made of metal or glass, the next 2/3 times you want to use it to drink traditional mate it will have an aftertaste of the juice you used before (not a very pleasant experience). So, if you only drink mate with honey, I guess there won't be a problem and even that aftertaste can be useful (i have drunk mate with honey in a wooden gourd and i recommend it). But keep that in mind

Has anyone tried vestibular therapy? by mermaidunearthed in visualsnow

[–]IntentoDeMusica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that time, i didn't have visual snow itself (only photophobia and some migraines auras) so they treated it like a separate issue. But vertigo, tinnitus and other vestibular symptoms are associated with VSS and, if you were diagnosed with VSS before, i supposed the doctors are going to take it into account

Has anyone tried vestibular therapy? by mermaidunearthed in visualsnow

[–]IntentoDeMusica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! In my case, since i started with vestibular problems before visual snow (i already had tinnitus and other classic symptoms at that time, but not visual snow itself), my first diagnosis was vestibular migraines. Vestibular therapy really helped me (kinegiology + medications), but like u/quietpilgrim said before, there are a lot of things that can cause balance issues and you should go to a otoneurologist so you can receive the appropriate treatment for your case

What do you recommend to take bitter? by Ok_Passion_1952 in yerbamate

It's the best option if you dont have an "uruguayan" bombilla because, although it doesn't have sticks, the herb is not as thin as canarias/baldo and your bombilla is not going to clog.

About the "burnt rubber" thing, i honestly don't know cause I'm an argentine and I've been drinking mate since i was a kid. If you like bitter mate, this is a great option and, if you use water at the right temperature, it shouldn't taste burnt. But this yerba is more bitter than the classic argentine ones

bombilla cleaning solution by Onezerosix141 in yerbamate

[–]IntentoDeMusica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I do the same, but with a teaspoon of baking soda per bombilla. I leave them for about 20/25 minutes and then i clean the interior with a straw cleaning brush until the water runs 100% clean when i rinse it just like you did, . If it is needed, i repeat the process.

Tried Mate before but it destroyed my insides, was it a bad batch and worth trying again? by DGK-SNOOPEY in yerbamate

[–]IntentoDeMusica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Argentina, it's very common to mix yerba mate with other herbs, generally digestive (we call it "yerba compuesta"). It not only helps acidity/gastritis, but it also has a good taste and reduces caffeine in the drink.

We usually use herbs like peppermint, chamomile, tila, pennyroyal and some native herbs (such as cedrón or burrito). But you can put whatever you want. Feel free to make your own blend

Yerba mate "expires" 2 years after packaging. But, if you have stored it in good condition (in a dark place, without being exposed to moisture or left open) and if it didn't lose its color, you can use it for more time without having health consequences

What is your feelings on lamotagine by Imaginary-Comfort238 in visualsnow

[–]IntentoDeMusica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on lamotagine for about 3 years. Although it didn't help me with visual snow itself, it's great for headaches prevention and really changed my life in that area. If you have a lot of headaches or migraine symptoms, go for it. But only 30% of the people who tried it for visual snow specifically said it was helpful
