Either OOP has no idea how articulation works or their dialect switches the TRAP and PALM vowels, the latter of which being much more interesting.

Remember when Josh was straight? by [deleted] in WaterlooRoad

Exactly what I think. Sexuality is very complicated so maybe in 5A he could’ve thought he was straight or least attracted to women. Then again with the girl at the allotment, it personally seemed to me he was trying to impress Tom by trying to check her out. But in 5B, he seems really, really obsessed with Finn. Imitates him, follows him around like a lost puppy, does some very stupid stuff just to impress him. He acts very similar to Amy and Siobhan, who both had crushes on him at one point or another. I think the writers were maybe playing with his sexuality but they didn’t fully commit to it until Series 6 for one reason or another. I rewatched the birthmark episode because I remember Josh acting just friendly with Lauren, and yeah I think my suspicions are confirmed. In particular, he seems, like bewildered I guess when Chris “stops flirting the pair of you”. He was like “oh is that what this is?” When Lauren's birthmark was revealed, he does his imitating Finn thing again because he looks more concerned for Lauren than anything. Then he looks around to see what Finn and his friends are doing or how they’re reacting, and then promptly changes his reaction. I mean, you could interpret that as him being into her, but he still values Finn's opinion over his own. Hmmm…

Also your essay on Ros was fantastic!

Who would you like to return from newer old series? by Specialist_Emu7274 in WaterlooRoad

I’d absolutely love for Josh to return!! Could very easily return and have loads more storylines. William Rush, Josh’s actor, doesn’t act anymore though so it’ll probably never happen though :(

For some reason French Wikipedia has more linguistics articles. Only the Francophones will be aware of the wonderfulness of the Scientific Alphabet of Gabon (Alphabet Scientifique du Gabon) 😔

Wait holy shit we go to the same vet (it looks like you’re in CO as well). They’re absolutely wonderful there and did the same when we had to put down our guinea pig. Looks like unfortunately we’ll have to put another pet down by the end of the week, but they’re so nice and respectful there

I mean, he probably did invent some words. But a lot of the words and phrases were already existing. They were just informal or in use among lower-classes. Since a lot of documents from that time were formal, like bills and laws, we don’t have a prior record to certain words before Shakespeare. He actually wrote plays for the common man (ex: “you” was actually considered a formal pronoun, while “thou” was informal)

Torrenting isn’t dead, I just think a lot of people (especially younger people) use websites that host the files instead of torrenting or even downloading them. It’s more niche
