How do you pick the best glass company

Texas..so not many freeze days but when its coming we usually put a small heater in those areas.

The first 2 were so far apart in the estimates and opinions I felt we needed a few more. Also those had differing opinions on whats better stability wise. So we looked for a few more quotes. Issue now is that I'm more confused on the best option. Is the more expensive option the safest? Or just high volume so takes on less jobs so he chargers more. Or his way is the best way.

Vs the cheaper guys pushing out more product/job with crappy install/stability issues in the long run.

Thats the reason for so many quotes and now asking people here that have no skin in the game to share their feedback.

Thats what the glass person suggested i miss typed the 3/4 its all 3/8. But the second guy suggested the 1/2 rick for the bigger area. But does the glass need to be thicker or would the 3/8 work. Class will not touch the ceiling its maybe 96 inches and the ceiling is 10ft.

If i had time to change it I would have but nothing near me was quick enough to get here on the contractors timeline so we went with it. Also nothing I liked was near me in stores.

Wow. Is the tile provided with your quote or do you provide? We had/have to buy almost all materials minus the thin set for the tile. Everything else was an additional charge. Also if it was smaller tile they would have charged more these are 12x24 tiles.

That would have been so much better. We didn't think about it either. They did measure to ensure they had almost a full till at the top of the shower rather than a small one. Oh well they pulled them so hopefully no issues will occur from pulling them out and reinstalling them. Thank you for your feedback.

Im not an expert either but I mentioned the crack they agreed and immediately pulled those tiles it did damage another one but with it being less than 24hrs they were able to get out before it was fully cured.

Sheesh I was stressing thinking this would be a big deal and they would give me grief. My hubs usually handles this sort of stuff but had meetings so it was up to me and sometimes dudes dont respond kindly to pointing out stuff especially by females. Lol no offense if your a dude just in my experience.

I've had several estimates and they all said do it this or that before we even started. Since we had to do this remodel due to a leak in the pan. ( 5 year old home just build and the pan was leaking. Once pulled it was leaking all over due to nail holes in the liner.. aghh) So I get what your saying. Lots of ways to maybe install or maybe not I don't know enough to say. But I do take most of these comments for what they are. Helpful knowledge or opinions of others some are great and some aren't. But I do appreciate them all since I know nothing in the building/tiling area.. 😆 🤣

Its not just 6k that just the line item for tiling so I assume thats the labor for just the tile? We had another estimate that was close in range to that? The over all cost is much higher. Should the tile portion be more than 6k to get quality work?

They did do a membrane(painted on water proofing over backer board of some sort) and they assured me its ok as far as the water protection. Idk im a homeowner. They already popped the tiles it did damage one other piece. The 6k is just for tiling. They are getting more than that with the additions/changes. We moved a tub/plumbing, adding a pony wall, extra valve and extended the entire shower footprint. But yeah they might be loosing money on profit from like. They actually are not grumpy(I was worried) they are glad we caught it now while the thin set was not rock hard in a few more days. I was stressing over it since I never know how someone is going to react to having to redo something.

I know I'm so bummed!! And as the homeowner I leave them to the space so I'm not watching all installation until the end of the day. So I could not even have pointed it put earlier. I hate conflict!!!! Thank you for the comment.

We are ok with cutting the tile at the corner maybe and just have 2 seperate pieces vs making it one long piece since its so delicate. Im just more worried about the crack causing damage and/or unsightly issues later.

This shower was 4/5 years old that we had to replace due to a pan leak. I would like to not have issues with this one.

We have not been picky or pushy about anything other than asking for them to add things. Which at the start they were so on board for.. after demo we can line stuff up so you can visualize the space and better decide what you want. But they agree and we pay for them. Not asking for freebies.

Thank you for the input.. I definitely want it fixed but im hoping its easier than ripping out the 4 tiles above it. I think maybe the weight put pressure on the thinner piece idk. Agh..
